| babymax, I know that Max has really serious hepatic encephalopathy symptoms, and you're really scared for him. The best thing that you can do is keep him on a strictly low protein diet, with veggies and fruits for snacks/treats, milk thistle (marin or hepatosupport), denosyl (sam-e or vetri-dmg), lactulose (given directly on or after meals and enough that he has 2 soft poops per day)...With this regimen, he should be able to live a good life. I know of a poodle with MVD who lived to be 17yrs old, but I'm sure they were very strict about the dog's protocol. If you have any questions about liver disease/mvd, please refer them to the liver shunt group. There, everyone is dealing with the same situations as you.
