| Question I have a yorkie that is 1 1/2 years old. She is trained to go potty outside but hates the bad weather snow, rain and tall grass. We live on a lot with some woods and so I am so worried about coyotes and other animals. I take her out on a leash but she hates to be on a leash. I was thinking about the litter box training?? Has anyone every tried this with a dog already outdoor trained. I don't want to make this worse... Just better. But I am thinking that when winter comes it is going to be terrible because she just stands there and won't go potty it the weather and grass is just not perfect Any suggestions??? |

Therapy Dog Donating Member | I have the same issue with Izzy with the rain - she'll go outside but needs to do her business under cover. I can only imagine how she's going to be when the snow starts to fly around her in a couple of months. We invested in a doggie house that we are going to put on our deck that's big enough and we'll put pee-pads in their and set it right out front of our patio door and hopefully Izzy will get used to that and do her "thing" in there. I'd post pictures of the doggie house but DH has yet to put it together. It's large enough for her to move around in but then again Izzy is very small. Good luck - and let us both keep our fingers crossed since we are both in the same boat.

| I am sure I am going to have the same problem with Winstin. The grass has been wet every morning and he does not like that to well. When it was pouring the other night he would not go until I got soaked and held an umbrella over him. I am not sure what we are going to do about that. I want him to be fully outside potty trained just like my others. This could get interesting for us Ohio Yorkie owners.

| Oh man can I relate. Yesterday was our first rainfall all summer and my little Mindy sure didn't like it at all. Even this morning I took her out and the grass was wet and it was too much of a distraction for her. I'm fine with her using the pee pads as long as that's all she uses. Only thing is at times she is using my area rugs and it's getting frustrating. Grrrr!!!! I need an x pen that I can stick her in. My house is too wide open for her and she is having accidents. I better just suck it up and get one.
