| Kalina Ate A Pencil!! I just got off the phone with my Vet. I can't turn my eyes for TWO SECONDS and something happens! Kalina ate part of a lead pencil. I mean she tore it up as if it were manna from the heavens. I called the Vet and he said to give her Angel Food Cake?? ...or pieces of white bread. Have any of you had any experience with your dogs eating pencils? What did you do? What was the outcome? I'm worried sick now and need some advice. Thanks.

| Ellie has never eaten a pencil. Pencils are not made of lead anymore. Regular pencils are made of graphite which is not poisonous. Your vet told you to give bread or cake because it will coat the pencil on the way down. I would be so worried too.

| Ohh poor baby. I hope she didn't eat a lot!!! I'd say as long as she ate little piece of pencil, then she should be O.K. My last yorkie ate so many thing that she shouldn't have and she lived 16 happy years!!! (Without any emergency vet visit!!!) Good luck. |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | I Have!!! Diggy ate colored pencils, and the outcome was blue and green poop! I think all leads these days are non toxic so I dont think you have any worries. I was scared of the wood being passed but vet said stomach acid will break down wood to a certain extent. good luck and keep us posted!

| Thanks guys, I fell SO MUCH BETTER!! Of course I was thinking lead and my baby is going to die from lead poisoning. She ate half a piece of white bread and would have eaten more, but I think that's enough for now. I'm resting a little easier thanks to your responses. Whew, she'll be the death of me yet. Someone yesterday asked me if I loved her as much as I love my children. LOL. I couldn't even answer that...it's just different. She's my baby.

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | Well i am glad your feeling better! Unless the pencil is from the 70's most are No.2's now which is completely non toxic due to kids eating so many and kids getting stabbed by them and the lead lodging in thier skin! Same with paste, glue, ink, paint, play doh...etc...

| Wow that little stinker! They sure keep us on our toes don't they! I'm glad I read this thread. It is good to know that pencils aren't toxic anymore! I'm always paranoid when my daughter is using sharp pencils... it's good to know it's graphite now and not lead. I hope your baby doesn't have any troubles, I'll keep you guys in my prayers!!

| Don't worry too much, just watch her. As people have said they are not made from lead anymore. Ben ate a bit of pencil when he was a pup once, it passed through just fine the next day. |
