| Rebel's weird teeth My vet called about Rebel's teeth. He said that what he thought was buildup on his canines is actually damaged enamel He said this is very unusual and asked me several questions. He said that this could be caused by tetracyclene (Rebel hasn't taken it), antibiotics taken orally ( Rebel hasn't done that), or a bad distemper vaccine. He said that the vaccine could've given him a very mild case of distemper with the enamel on his canines being the only sign that he had it. I was very upset. I asked him Rebel was in danger of losing the permanent canines and he said he couldn't really answer that. He said there was always the possibility of him breaking one, but that could happen with any dog. He said all his other teeth are white and fine. Has anyone every heard of this? Kim

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | This is what Dr. Pitcairn says: There are two major reasons why tooth decay occurs in animals and these are use of commercial foods and vaccination. If you have been feeding a good quality home diet using raw meat and tooth decay still occurs, it is likely because your animal has been vaccinated in the past. It is one of the side effects of vaccination that there will be decay with even the best of foods. The type of decay is peculiar to vaccine influence, that is that it occurs at the juncture of the gums and the teeth, what are called "neck lesions." Though there can be other places affected and even looseness of the teeth as part of this syndrome, it is the presence of these "neck lesions" which tell me that the vaccines are responsible. In these cases, the only solution, in terms of long term prevention of recurrence of the problem, is to give homeopathic treatment to that animal. The vaccines in some will cause a permanent distortion of health, one that cannot be corrected by diet alone.

What kind of homeopathic treatment can I use? I don't know anything about it and I feed Royal Canin to both my babies.
