| Help please hello my name is Ashley and I am in need of some help. my grandmother recently lost her long time pet (Tiny, 16 years old). He passed away about 2 years ago and since then she has been very lonely. It breaks my heart to see my grandmother so sad and so I am trying to find her a new pet. She loves yorkies more then any other kind of dog and so I want to find one for her. the problem is I'm noticing they cost a lot of money. I'm only 19 years old. I recently moved out of my house and am trying to make it on my own. So finding a yorkie that I can afford for my grandma is proving much more difficult then I thought. if anyone can point me in the direction of someone who maybe has a yorkie that would be willing to work something out with me, or if you have any ideas on places I can go (stores, shelters, ect...) where I may be able to find a dog for a good price please let me know. I'm looking for a female yorkie, and I don't think age is of importance. I know my room to be picky isn't really there. But I do need a female dog (so she won't mark over the house). Please either email me of post a comment here if you have any advice or help. And if you know of any other forums I could post at. Oh I suppose its important to tell people where I live. I'm in ohio close to toledo. So I need to find a dog basically just close to here. If its in a nearby state I suppose I can make the drive. so really just in this general area though. Thank you! |

| Maybe you can look for a local Yorkie Rescue group, that is going to probebly be the cheapest route for you! I wish you the best of luck on your search.

| Maybe you could go down to your local animal shelter and tell them to put you and the list so if a yorkie comes in they could call you. Also look into local yorkie rescue sites! Good luck, your grandmother seems like a lucky lady to have such a loving granddaughter! |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | WELCOME I am just about 20 minutes from you in Southeast Michigan. I am in Toledo all the time.....I suggest looking into a rescue. Yorkies around here run $500-1500+ in our area. Maybe its like that everywhere but thats what I see in the paper all the time. If you need more help and decide which path your going to take let me know I will help in your puppy search if youd like. I can seek out yorkies here in SE Michigan!

| what percausions should I take in watching out for scams? I didn't think about it at all until I saw you mention that. Are there certain things I should look for? I've emailed someone about a dog already. So wish me luck! |

| Ashley, How old is your grandma? Let me tell you what my brother and I did for my parents. They were older (Late 60's - early 70's) and they were not up to training a puppy (Yorkies are tough to potty train, just so you know). They lost their Collie at 13 years old and like your grandmother were lonley. My brother and I searched Petfinder and found the perfect match. We took them to see a beautiful (Very regal) 8 year old Collie who was already trained and well behaved. He had lived his whole life with one family and for whatever reason was dumped at 8 years old. It worked out wonderfully, as my parents got a dog already trained and he got a home that he may not have otherwise had, since not many will take on an older dog. The thing is you don't want to get a puppy that (I hate to put it this way) but that may outlive your grandma or be without a home should she have to ever go into a nursing home. This is how MANY of the Yorkies up for adoption became up for adoption. My parents had McDuff for five great years, then he passed. My mom now has Alzeimers she started with it the last year they had McDuff. He never left her side and some how in the end I think he knew it was time for him to go as at this point my mom wasn't who she used to be and was spending more and more time in the hospital. Please, consider rescue. You can find a nice Yorkie a little older or even a nice small mix with Yorkie in it. Try www.puppymillrescue.com or www.petfinder.com I'm sure you will find a nice dog for her through one of them. Also the best part about rescue is that the dog you get will have already been vetted, spayed, neutered and groomed with your adoption fee which varies between usually $200 - $400. Best of luck to you and your grandmother. Elaine |
