| Another Heart Attack! It seems as if there is a rash of scary yorkie incidents going on right now. And I have my own to add to the list this morning. I know there has been much discussion about letting yorkies out in the backyard on their own. And I have to admit that I do let Pixie out for a little while in the back yard in the mornings before it gets too warm. She is usually out for about an hour at a time a couple of times in the morning. WELL, this morning I let her and my sister's yorkie out in the back while I was getting my oldest ready for school. It was a chaotic morning from the time we got out of bed. Just as Kealey's (my daughter) ride to school pulled up, I heard one of the dogs SCREAMING at the back door. I was standing at the open front door with my 2 year old and I yelled back at Kealey as to what was going on. For just a split second I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to leave my 2 year old on the front porch, but I knew there was an emergency on the back porch with the dogs. Kealey told me that Pixie was hung in the chair really bad. I yelled at her to go watch her brother while I got the dog. When I got out there, her leg was caught in the chair to my bistro set and she was dangling UPSIDE DOWN by her little leg!!!! I just KNEW it had to be broken. Miraculously, it was not and she was fine. She must have jumped up in the chair, her leg fallen through the cut out part, and then she either jumped or fell down. I still cannot believe that she did not get hurt. So moral of the story is... You can just add unexpected accidental injury to one of the many reasons you probably shouldn't let your yorkie outside alone.

| Thank goodness she was okay! I look at Milo as a toddler---I can't turn my back on him. Even leaving at home in his ex-pen--where he's safe, I still worry. |

| I feel that way too! There are SOOO many ways that they can get hurt...ways we wouldn't ever dream of! The MOST I will do is put Betty in her XPen in the backyard about 15 feet from the door. And she is under one of the carport overhangs so nothing tries to fly down and get her and she is in the shade!! Usually her big sister Kady (Border Collie) and Macy (her cat 'boyfriend') are within a few feet of her. And I am looking out every few minutes to check on things. You never know...a snake could bite her if she is exploring on her own (!!) She could find a nest of fire ants (although my mission in life is to eradicate ALL of them within a one mile readius of the house), a hawk, an owl, whatever. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | OMG she's a lucky girl !! I would have freaked out too but am so glad she's ok..... My neighbors came home to find their poor dog hanging from his leash and collar outside...it's something people just don't think about... and Betty'sMom..I'm with you - I walk my yard EVERY Day - have ant stuff at hand and bug spray just in case....I'm always outside with mine but on days that the slider door is open they do come in and out on their own...I'm glad they like to be by ME 24/7 because it's rare they're ever outside by themselves |

| Isn't that the truth! My husband and I were just saying that same thing last night -- it is like we have a bunch of toddlers in the house again. We were referring to the nightly toy pick up routine but I can see it applies to safety too. I have to go out with ours -- we have a pool and live in the country. There are a host of dangers out here -- I worry most about the snakes. But so many things can become a hazard for these little ones. Besides it is good for me to get out in the sunshine -- gotta get that Vitamin D cooking!

| Poor Pixie. I am glad she was not hurt. It's just amazing what these little ones get themselves into! I bet she won't go near that chair again. (If your lucky) |

| I agree that you shouldn't let a small dog outside unatended, but in Pixie's case, it may not have made any difference anyway. Even with us standing watch, they can still get hurt, but at least we will be there to help right away, and to also make sure no one steals them or any bird of prey tries to carry them off. I'm glad her leg wasn't broken. Bet she was just as scared as you were. |

| I'm so glad Pixie is ok - that had to be so scary for her and you! My girls are always into something. I think I have the place puppy proofed and they come up with something to scare the daylights out of me.

| Poor little Pixie! Thank God she's okay. Deep breaths now for you and a nice warm cup of coffee with the dogs near you so you can get that adrenalin down.

| That's so scary!! Poor little Pixie...I bet she was scared to death hanging from her leg like that. I'm so glad that she was okay and her leg was not broken. You probably got there just in time.

| Poor Pixie, I know she was scared to death! I'm so glad she wasn't hurt, but it could've happened with you standing right there. I don't let mine outside without me or my son, but they've run into things, or jumped from furniture with us right there and scared us to death.
