| I need advice It's been a more than a month i have my Yorkie Spankie. i love him to pieces, but there is a problem. He is scared of other dogs. Small, big and puppies. Right now, i'm visiting my sister and she two dogs and he is hiding in a corner of my niece's room. I don't know what to do. I want to take him out and have him enjoy the other dogs and puppies. I can't even go to the dog park with him.

| You just need to keep exposing him to dogs and different situations. Enroll in a puppy class, go to the dog park often, find people with dogs and arrange play dates. Don't worry, he will improve. My little Chai was timid and now she's the "alpha dog" at 2 lbs if you can imagine!! |

| Good Luck. You are doing the right thing by bringing him around other dogs as much as possible. Just remember not to coddle him while he is hidding. You will only reinforce his behavior. Try to block off other rooms so that he has to stay in the same room as your sisters dogs. Try not to hold him when he is scared. Play with the other dogs give them treats. Try to place him right next to the other dogs. When he shows interest or acts curious towards the other dogs give him a treat. He will soon learn that no one is going to protect him, that he will not get special attention and that the other dogs will not hurt. Good luck |

| your baby just needs to be socialized...sit on the floor with him and the other pups and dogs put him right next to you as you play with other dogs he will see its ok. The more you play with the pups while he is next to you the more comfortable he will become. Invite friends over that has dogs so he can play in his own environment with others invading his space as well. Getting on the floor with them is the key. If youre not taking him out in public much that is much of the problem, take him with you when you can like pet stores. walks in an outside busy mall, sit on a bench or grass at the park and in your front yard if neighbors tend to walk by often... The more exposure your baby gets the more social he will become. Hope this helps

| I live in NY too and the dog park can be intimidating if your dog is not used to it. Today, there were like 10-15 dogs...big ones, too. Two giant Newfoundlands, a lab/newfie mix, a couple of those racing dogs that look like greyhounds and one other yorkie. While the small dogs were initimidated, Archie just ran around and played ball with the other dogs. How old is your yorkie? If he's a baby then it's probably not such a great idea to let him play with bigger older dogs unless there's a mommy-baby attachment between them. But, what you might want to consider is taking your dog to the dog park when there are not too many other dogs around and letting him feel like wow..this is an OK place to be. It also helps for him to smell the other dogs that were there and become comfortable with the scents. I personally think that when dogs are separated from their litter too early and spend a lot of time with humans, they become undersocialized, so what you might want to begin doing is building up a group of litter-mates...a couple of nice dogs that he can sort of get to know and become friendly with. And I agree that it's important to sit down with all three dogs and play with them together so that your dog feels safe that you're there. |

| awww...do people leave toys at the dog park you go to? they leave balls and stuff and archie likes to play with ball so he will run for it with the other dogs. maybe you can bring his favorite toy along to distract him from feeling anxious. |
