| Car Sick... Lately every time I take Lulu in the car with me she throws up. I have been making sure to feed her atleast an hour before we go. I don't like to leave her home on my days off. Any advice on what I can do. I hope I don't have to stop taking her with me. |

| You should probably talk to your vet about that, but my yorkie Dexter also gets carsick and my vet told me to use Benadryl. You could talk to the vet about using that and they can tell you how much to use, etc. I think they also just released a new medicine for car sickness. So, yeah, I'd talk to your vet about it....

| Please don't give your baby medicine. This is something she needs to get used to and to outgrow. If they can't see out of the car with it's moving then they do get sick when they are babies. First let someone else drive while you hold your baby up so she can see out. Just make the trip around the block two or three times a day so she gets used to it. When that works, then secure her in her car seat and drive around the block two or three times a day. Make the trips a bit longer each day if she doesn't vomit. On longer trips you can add vitamin C and vitamin B-complex to help them deal with stress. Make up some peppermint tea to take along and if the dog gets sick, then give it some tea to settle it's stomach. You can also give peppermint capsules. (not so well tolerated by cats). For a long trip, fast the dog the first day. |

| I think checking with vet is the best way to go. Haruka threw up only once in my car.. but then now she goes in my car everyday... being in her bag everyday being carried around.. she has no problem now...

This is what we had to do with Percy. He would throw up if he even got near the car. We just took him on little rides, and now he is fine with the car.

| I also had luck with a carseat. Once Chan was high enough to see out he did fine. |

| If a puppy is still very nervous when it comes to car rides then give him 4 drops of Rescue Remedy 45 minutes before leaving. It's all natural!! |

| Just curious, but isn't Benadryl for allergies? I'm curious as to what would make it effective in relieving car sickness. Of course, if it knocks your pooch out...I guess they can't really get nervous and throw up if they are sleeping. I have found that short, frequent trips...to somewhere enjoyable will eventually ease a dog's nervousness in the car. Also, it's better to start when they are young...rather than when they are older. Good luck! |

| My new little guy gets carsick really bad too. Even when I don't feed him 3 hours before the car ride. I've tried smaller trips, longer trips and he either throws up in the car, or as soon as we get out of the car he throws up. I just got him two weeks ago so hopefully he will grow out of it Cause I hate watching him sick, and I am washing a million blankets..lol

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | if Lulu is still a puppy then she still may get used to riding in the car and may outgrow the car sickness. i agree with the suggestion of the car seat and the frequent trips to get her used to it. however if you have tried all this and if it still doesn't work then you can try dromamine (can be purchased at the drug store). ask your vet the proper dosage for lulu.

| Roxy used to get carsick all the time when she was a puppy and sometimes she still does just not as often. I make sure feed her at least two hours before we go anywhere. It has seemed to work for her.

Milo was 17 weeks old when I got him and has a prob with trips over 30 minutes unless he can see. Lookout seat is on it's way so I'm hoping it will help. He still shakes for the first 10 minutes as well. We just keep taking him with the hopes that he will soon even out and someday love going for rides as he sure doesn't want to be left alone either. | |
