| Update on my puppymill baby My little female was very sick when I got her. We just finished up with a 13 day treatment for her coccidia. Don't know if she's cured yet but the vet says that part of the treatment is for her own immune system to kick in. So back to the vet today to relook at the fact that her kennel cough is no better. Full chest x-rays reveal there is a little infection in the lungs (not enough to say "ah ha, this is it", but enough to continue with some stronger antibiotics. Tetracycline (which can cause her teeth to yellow - oh great). And a full week of worming meds. I am to bring her back in two weeks and if she hasn't shown dramatic improvement then the vet wants to run some diagnostic tests to the tune of $400. YIKES She doesn't have a collapsed trachea - which was being suspected. I am so torn up over this fiasco. Money is one thing, but mainly that someone can do this to a living being is beyond me. On a positive note, she is so loving, playful, happy and basically a good dog. Hits her pee pad most of the time (or within one ft. of it - which I can live with) If I go by the vets guess on her age (based on her teeth) she is 17 wks. and her wt. is 2 lbs. 10 oz. If I go by the lying puppymill breeder she is 23 wks. Oh, ordered her an adorable valentine outfit from ebay. I can't wait to see her in. I really needed to get her some sweaters, but I couldn't resist the little outfit. Will post pics when I get it. Bijou will be happy to model it. |
