Playing In The Grass

My little Coco is 10 weeks 1 lbs 5 oz. I was wondering if any of you know whether it's ok for her to play in the grass. I mean, I don't want her to eat grass and get sick or contract something other doggies might have left behind. I know I'm really paranoid about her getting sick or hurt but we have to be right? So should she stay away from grass and parks for a bit?

Has she had all her shots?....if not then going outside to play is still a no-no according to my vet...after she has had all her shots give it about a week and she should be ready to go

I worry about the same thing actually....we're very careful where we let Jerry go when he goes out...there was a schnauzer in our neighborhood that had roamed onto a neighbor's lawn and had some issues due to some of the insecticides.

Maybe Im very overprotective with Jerry in that manner, but better safe than sorry.

Sophie has all her shots and loves playing in the grass. She will occasionally eat some grass but she poops it all out. We clean up her poop so no worries about her eating *that*.

She will occasionally eat a bug. YUK!

Oscar loves to play in the yard. Eating a little grass shouldn't hurt him. I just check him over carefully for bugs, i.e. ticks, when he comes in.

Making sure she has all her shots it very important, but after that I think it is fine. I would watch and make sure she doesn't eat any dirt, because she can get worms and parasites that way. Also, when she comes in I would wipe her feet off with a wet cloth, and hur hair with a dry towel. When I got Tinker she had bad allergies from playing in the grass, and when I would put her in her kennel at night she would scratch like crazy. I finally figured out that it was the pollen that was getting on her blankets in there. I felt so bad. So, just make sure she isn't bringing anything in from outside and getting it on her blankets and she should be fine.

My Tess has been in the grass since she was 6 weeks old. I am "outside" training her and she is doing great. I don't think it will hurt her at all to eat grass. Most dogs eat grass all the time. Tess does and it hasn't hurt her yet. Do make sure she has all of her shots and she should be fine. I've never heard of not letting them in the grass, though. The only place my vet said not to take her before she's had all of her shots is PetSmart. She also said not to let her around a bunch of other dogs as well, but she's only around my sister's dog who has had all her shots. I think she should be just fine, though, out in the grass.

I wouldnt I learned this the hard way. My baby Xander had only 2 sets of shots and got out of the house by accident. He ran out when my kids opened the door. He didnt go anywhere but in the grass right out in front of my house and guess what, he somehow got sick from it, they think kennal cough. Luckily everyone else is up to date on shots and they should be ok, but right now he is on antiboitics trying to get better. So unless they are done with all their shots I would not chance it.

My pom Comic eats grass when he has an upset tummy.
He eats the wide blade fresh grass.
I have heard it is common for dogs to eat grass in order to vomit.
This makes sense to me considering he eats it after he has gotten in to the garbage somehow. (like at a friend's cottage)
My puppy Mya loves to run in the grass.
I take her out from 4 to 8 times a day. I would not let her run in grass that has been sprayed for weeds at least for a couple of weeks. We love watching Mya prance, roll and run in the grass. She even got my 13 year old pom Comic, prancing yesterday !!

MY Snoodles eats grass all the time. She will look at me and grab some grass and then run away and eat it. I think I was making too much of it, becausse she would do it everytime we were out.
WHATEVER you do, don't put fertilizer on your grass or pesticides or anything! I always had the nicest lawn in the neighborhood, but there is no way I will put down that poison now. They are too little and if they eat grass, they could get cancer or die! Be Warned!

You should ask your vet. Mine would allow my dogs out in my yard only after 2 sets of shots. After 3 sets they were could go anywhere. All vets are different on their reccomendations on this. I would error on the side of caution also since your dog is so small. My female was that size at that age. I didn't let her out at all untill her 3 set of shots were done. After shes all done with her shots I will take her out other places. I just don't want to risk it . Small dogs can go down fast if they get something.
