| How much should I pay for a yorkie? I have been looking for a female puppy for what seems like forever! I've pretty much decided that I will have to pay between 1-2 thousand dollars, but was hoping that I could find one for at least as little as $700-800. I recently found a website (it a california classifieds type site where people post their ads) and many of the people on it are claiming that they are selling akc registered females for 300-400 dollars. This seems too good to be true. How can I know if they are legitimate? |

| yeah many have tried to scam me with the whole,'i was transferred to cameroon, just send me your money and youll get the puppy'...a lot of people online will try and scam you, because its easy to do on the internet. be careful with purchasing, ask plenty of questions, and good luck on finding a nice pooch!

| Welcome to YT. I don't know how you can be sure of a website. You don't want to spend your $$ only to get a sick or poorly bred puppy. I would try to find someone here on YT who lives in your area. This is a good place to start. I'm sure there is someone close to you that might know of a good breeder in your area. You can read some of the horror stories here about good folks who've ended up with puppies that were so sick that they required alot of medical attention. Take your time. You're asking good questions. Check out the regional forum for your area. Maybe you can find some help there.

We paid $600 for ours without a health guarantee, but he is beyond the 7-pound AKC standard for Yorkies (9.5 pounds). I don't regret it for a minute, but we could have never shown him if that was our goal. YT member chechinmipo is from Modesto. You might try PMing.

| Take Your Time And do the research on purchasing a yorkie...We lost our Maltese and German Shepherd w/in months of each other and thought I could never go through that loss again...BUT I started looking at web sights and through many of the SCAMS, like the mentioned Africa Mission, etc. I learned alot...Check your local classified ads, or your local vet for a breeder local (which is where I found my Charlie!) and go see the parents and the living conditions and avoid any heartache you may experience in buying a puppy shipped to you from the unkown (once you have your little one you will see as I did they are way too little to ship)...You will be happy you did...The woman I bought Charlie from cried when we left w/ him and we call each other often, (we share vet appt. info like weight gained, etc.) she truly cares about her pups finding a good home...Charlie was an only pup and she wanted to keep him until last, selling the other females pups first, but knew I would be a good parent and let him go first, we are actually thinking of buying another male from the other litter, I am so in love with this little guy it isn't even funny!!! haha...he is so lovable!!! send any questions my way and I will do my best to help you! yml |

Welcome to YT. That is very good advice. I would not have a pup shipped from a breeder unless I knew of their reputation. It's just as important to research the breeder as it is to research the puppy. | |

| Thank You~ I learned fast, I must live under a rock at times, I NEVER even imagined someone using a dog for a SCAM! I received the Africa story 3 times and then threatened to turn them into the sight...It was on puppyfinder.com (puppyfind.com ?), I also saw the same picture of a dog on more than one sight...People are crazy...LAter, yml |

| well if you want one pre-trained...maybe a Yorkie rescue shelter? if not I ended up paying $700 for Tigger who is now full grown and weighs six pounds and for my puppy Bear I payed $500 and he's now eight months old and weighs seven and a half pounds. I think the more you pay the smaller the yorkie. I could be wrong.

| Thanks! Thank you for all of your help! Everyone has very good advice. I'm not sure about the rules of writing a thread, I am a new member... can anyone tell me if I am allowed to mention someones web address on here? I think I know who I want to buy my puppy from cause she breeds in california a few hours from me and I absolutely love all the yorkies she has pictured but I want to know if anyone has heard anything of her. |

| Many do just that -- go ahead and post the website! It is a good way to find out if others have had dealings with the breeder and what possible problems or pluses are seen.

| Great thanks! Her website is babydollyorkies.com. Anyone heard of her? I am leaning towards her, though she is a little more expensive than I would like. She has really cute puppies. The dams and sires pictured are adorable, and she is close enough that I could visit the pups before I decide on purchase. |

| You dont have to spen 1-2 thousand dollars on a yorkie for him to be healthy or well bred. You just need to find a nice family that breeds them OCASSIONALLY, and that has a health garantee. I paid $700 for my Teddy and he is just perfect. He is within the weight standards and has great health, and i am still in contact with my breeder. |
