| Getting a Yorkie...need help Hi, I have been talking to a breeder, Patty Boroughs from Henryetta, OK regarding a yorkie she has for sale. I saw the posting on Next Day Pets. The pup is a 5-month old female who only weighs 1 lb and 9.6oz. She has sent me a few pictures and also offered to have me talk to her vet. I am interested but at the same time wary. What should I do next? Should I ask for more references such as previous buyers, and also ask to see the health history of the pup? What do you think? Thanks. Lenny |

| Wow that is pretty small. I would ask for some references and also talk to the vet. I found two of mine on Puppyfind and had no problems but i also went an picked them up. Plane tickets are fairly cheap. I would fly and get her. I think it is to chilly to ship dogs right now, especially at that size.

| well, if you do talk to her vet, you would have the health history and he can also tell you more about her as a breeder. she is a cutie, for sure. I don't think it's a scam or she wouldn't have offered her vet info. What is she asking for her? |

She's offered her vet's #, I'd start there. Also, it's not a bad idea to quiz her and vet about the health of the PARENTS. Liver shunt is a concern among this breed, and you should know up front what you're dealing with. Especially in such a wee one. And yes - get references from past customers.

She is asking for $1500 including shipping. She didn't say it's firm, so maybe it is still negotiable. | |

| I would also be afraid of shipping one that small. You should just ask her to take some off the price and buy yourself a ticket to go get her. We flew two beagle puppies to Louisiana this morning and they did just fine but yorkies are too delicate. Also, the airport reservations guy checked our weather here in kentucky (47 today) and (70) in New orleans. They check the temps on both ends. |

| Thanks... Thank you for all the wonderful advice. I am worried too about her being shipped to me. I'll check out the airfares and see what I can find. Her hair looks pretty thin from the pictures, is she going to stay that way or will she grow out of it? She is about 5 months old. Also, I would get her spayed if I adopt her; but she is so small and I hope the procedure won't be too much for her, any thoughts? Thanks again and I'll keep you posted. Lenny |
