| Should I get a second dog? Hey... This is the big question for me. Will I break my yorkie's heart if I get myself a second dog? He practicaly lives for me! But I can't always spend every moment of my waking hour with him even when I'm just with him. He loves other dogs but can be jealous of me sometimes and has no problem visiting other people and animals. I mean he's going to be a therapy dog! I want to get him a friend for when I'm working and am out and he's alone. He gets terribly depressed without me but will that make things worse if I get him a friend. He's fine and happy with my parent's dogs but they are bonded to my parents. What do you guys think? Please give me your advice!!! |

YT Addict | I am so glad someone else posted this question! I have wondered this same question myself. Alex sounds like your little guy and I have been toying with getting another Yorkie in a year or two. But everyone says that it would break his heart. So any advice would be great!!! Thanks

| I can only speak from my experience. My husband and I originally had two yorkies. They were brothers. Jackson was my special baby. He was like you say your's is. Horrible separation anxiety. But I felt better knowing he was with his brother. Last year we made a decision that we were nervous about and adopted their niece. We weren't sure how the three of them would get along. By the second day, all three dogs slept touching each other. In March, Jackson passed away. I feel so much better knowing that Jordan has Skeeter. The decision is ultimately up to you, but I know that we will never have just one dog. I hope that this helps you. |

| Mi Ki Well Im actullay looking into getting a Mi Ki they may be expensive but I guess I can understand because they are relativly hard to find. I find them absoulutly enchanting though. But I dont really think that matters as to how my little guy will feel about anouther puppy comin' in on his turf. |

| We would like to get a third, so we are very curious about how the pecking order will be. We are better that Skeeter will definitely be the alpha. Also, with Jordan being older than Skeeter she has really put a fire under him and he has a great pal. |

| I have two yorkies and a chow-mix. Maddie is 2 years old, Rudy is 17 months, Lucky is 15 years old. My two yorkies have got along from the first day I got Rudy. Lucky has only been around yorkies, she is one of the reasons I have them. When Max my first yorki, he was 17 years old passed away a couple of years ago, she went into a depression, she missed Max so much. I was going to get another one but wanted to wait a little while. Brought Maddie home and Lucky acts like she is a puppy again. Lucky loves them to death. When she goes out she looks back to see if they are coming. Call me crazy but in a few weeks I will be getting another yorkie girl. I will always have more than one dog, especially small ones. They don't eat that much, the only big cost is vet bills, but am lucky my family has been going to the same vet for more than 30 years and he let me keep a running bill lol

| I have 2 puppies that are going to grow up together and they get along well. I say get a second dog if you are ready to make that kind of commitment. Two are alot more fun than one.

| There will always be jealousy but I think the more the merrier . The benefits of more than one truly outweigh the disadvantages for me! |

| Getting a second dog (Tia) was one of the best decisions I have made. My older girl (Sandy) has had more energy and has been generally more active since we brought the puppy home. For us, it was the absolute right thing to do.

| You should be so lucky! My thought isn't that you'll break your Yorkie's heart...but your Yorkie will DEFINATELY try to break yours! I've had Maggy for four years now, and, like you, had been thinking of getting her a puppy for the past year or so. Our one other dog, Chelsea (a 35 pound mixed breed of some type...found abandoned in a parking lot, poor baby) is getting on in years (14), and really isn't all that interested in playing with Maggie as much as she would like. (And I was getting darned tired of playing chase around the furniture in the family room, being of MUCH MORE senior years than is Chelsea). Anyway, I debated and debated this thought: Will it break Maggie's heart? Will she hate me? (And, quite honestly, will she love the new puppy more than she loves me? I am a L O U S E ! ! !) After around six months I contacted the breeder from whom I got Maggie...sent her a letter. When I heard nothing from her, I figured it was fate. Maggie wasn't meant to have a sister. THEN...out of the blue...Connie, my breeder called me about a little one she would be making available (had hoped to show her, but she wasn't growing as much as Connie would have liked, and she figured she was going to be too little for the show ring). Last Friday night we met up with Connie at the Yorkie Regional, and picked up Molly. Maggie was PISSED...no question about it. She wouldn't come near me, whether I had Molly around or didn't. She didn't want treats. She didn't want to play. She, who ALWAYS sleeps curled into my side on the bed, moved herself to the far corner and did the nesting dance (for what was a REALLY prolonged period) on the comforter down there. Talk about the cold shoulder... Chelsea, meanwhile, was all about protecting her puppy (Maggie) from the interloper (Molly). Whenever Molly would try to get Maggie interested in playing with her (butt up, tail wagging), Chelsea would get in between them, and nose Molly away. Well, it took until about Wednesday before they (Maggie and Molly) engaged in their first game of chase in the family room. And, while I won't pretend to say they are now "Best Buds", they are on their way. Maggie will go and look for Molly if I ask her where she is, or if she's barking in another room. And (MOST IMPORTANTLY) Maggie is most definately back to loving me (her best friend in all the world). Have patience. Know that what you are doing is really good for your "baby". And don't let her see you cry while she plays her head games with you. Good luck! |

| I just got my 2nd a couple of weeks ago Yes, Pebbles is jealous - however, she likes to have someone to play with. The only time she really gets jealous is when I play with the baby Skittles & not w/her. I try to play w/them both at the same time, but for the most part, Pebbles won't let me. Pebbles is getting better everyday, but it's hard to watch her be jealous - I sort of feel like I betrayed her sometimes. Overall, I think it's gone very well though. I think it's more me than Pebbles that gets overly upset about it. I love them both & if I had it to do over again, I would. |
