Please don't trust your baby not to fall. My Jewel fell off our patio into the pond on Wednesday. She didn't drown but she died from complications related to the fall and her on going illness. I don't want you to endure the heart ache. The guilt and the loss of her life is unbearable.

| Hmm... there's never any knowing what these yorkies might do... so if there is a way that you can close in the deck i sure as anything would do it. My cousin's yorkie jumpes off the table, it's crazy, she freaks my cousin out at times! She is fast and before you know she on to the next thing... My Chanel is scared of nothing either, as weird as it sounds, before she's finnished doing one thing, she's already planned what she'll do next. It's the first time i have a yorkie with such a fiesty personallity. I can never leave her unattended for too long, so whatever i'm doing, i have to check on her every few minutes while she's awake. When i go out, i have to crate her.

| You might consider putting a bell on her too so you can hear where she is.

| Also puppies are not able to judge distance very well. They can't tell whether it's a big drop or a little one. That's why we should also be careful about putting our babies on furniture while they're young, they can't tell if it's too high for them to jump off. (The vet told me this so I know it's not hocum!)

| Do you have a railing on your deck? I got some plastic bird netting like you put on blueberry bushes, and stapled it to the railings so my girls don't take a nose dive. It goes about 2 feet up the rails all the way around the deck. Took me about 3 hours and it's so worth it! Don't risk losing your pup. Here's a picture that I think you can see the net in.

| Just to let you know, one of my babies did fall of our deck and its a good 12 feet to the ground, thank goodness he landed in soft dirt. We still rushed him to the vet and all was well. I have 7 running around the deck, so I went and purchased lattice, and it actually looks great, they can see me through the criss cross. I would never take a chance and what they will do. |

| Please do not take the chance. My Winston jump off our deck and broke his leg. It is not worth risking it. I would have never thought my dogs would do it but he did.

| I would put up some kind of barrier. You just don't want to take any chances with your baby! Or maybe keep her on a leash?

| High Deck Our deck is 23 foot of the ground so I put up chicken wire (2' height). I was scared that my yorkie would fall off the deck as he was small enough to fit thru the railings and he is so quick that I knew I could never watch him close enough. It's so nice to be able to relax out on the deck with the dogs and not have to worry about the little guy getting hurt. It's so worth the time it took to attach the chicken wire. Maybe when he is older I'll take it down but it really isn't that noticeable. |

| I wouldn’t risk it, considering how easy it is to prevent an accident. I’m not sure about all dogs but Ginger is a very good judge of distance. Even as a small pup she wouldn’t go near the edge of anything…not even the 3-inch cement slab in the back yard.
