| American Pet Registry or APRI??? My co-worker knows I have a yorkie and told me her daughter was interested in getting one. She says her daughter found someone who is selling yorkie puppies but that they are APRI registered. She asked me if that means the puppies are not purebred. I told her I wasn't sure. Does anyone know anything about this American Pet Registry and how it works? Is there a chance these puppies are not purebred yorkies? I told her I would find out for her but I personally wouldn't buy one of these puppies.

| i did a search online and found this: http://www.aprpets.org/main/modules....ognized_Breeds but also this on their home page: America's Pet Registry, Inc. has yielded to the requests of numerous breeders and pet owners to establish a registry service that can accept dogs with known parents but those that do not have documented pedigrees at this time. Until now, APRI has been unable to register many dogs from other registry services that do not have documented pedigrees. With the establishment of American Pet Records the same great APRI service is available to those who have begged APRI to accept their dogs for dual registration. The American Pet Records dogs will not be entered into the APRI database but will be recorded separately. An American Pet Records dog may be mated with an APRI dog; however, the litter will be issued as American Pet Records. Litter pedigrees will not be offered on these litters, nor will pedigrees on the American Pet Records dogs be available at this time.

| You just covered it very well! If that person wants a Yorkie as a pet only doesn't intend to breed it or show it, then she needs to do a few things: research the breed so she knows what qualities to look for in a pup (markings, size, etc), see the parents and compare them to Yorkie standards (markings, size, etc), and visit the pups over a period of time. She will get a feeling for a purebred and be able to decide if she wants one of the pups. |
