| Need suggestions, please!!!!!! Some of you may remember that I wrote earlier this week because Nikko was having a bout of diarrhea. Yesterday I took him to the vet because after a week of this I was worried. He told me Nikko is fine, his stomach is just upset. He told me to feed him a bland diet and prescribed some antibiotics for his tummy. Which brings me to my problem. I have to give him this liquid by mouth twice a day for the next seven days. I cannot add it to his food or anything (trust me I asked). Yesterday I caught him by surprise so I managed to get one dose in. This morning he was hip to my game and fought me tooth and nail. Between his snarling, biting and squirming I managed to squirt it all over his beard. Someone please help me!! How do I get this dog to take his medicine without losing a finger over it? By the way, Nikko did some poop this morning and it was solid, so that means he is getting better.

| Hmmm that is a tough one. Can you mix it with water so that at least he gets a little.....how come you cant mix it with the food? did the vet say not too or does he just know its in there....if the later is the case then try to put it in his favorite food....maybe some peanut butter of cottage cheese or yogart or something....Sorrry I cant be of more help. Let me know how everything works out and good luck. I hope your baby will be feeling better soon.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Can it be mixed with that gravy you can add to dry food ? That's a tough one...my girls LOVE to get stuff by syringe ...when My cocker gets her ear medicine... Chanel is right there wanting some too...(of course she does NOT get any ...but she sure tries) All 3 of mine open their little mouths on their own for anything squirtable....I used to squirt tiny bits of water into their mouths just to get them used to it when they were little... and they will take medicine if needed with no fuss now.... |

| Thanks for your replies!! I asked him if i could mix it with is food or something and he said no. Apparently, the food will absorb the bulk of it and he needs it in its complete concentration. i thought maybe soaking a small piece of bread in it but i tried and he refused it. Gosh i guess this is going to be harder than I thought!

| Muffin just went to the vet on Thursday for the same thing. She has an upper intestinal infection. He gave me some cans of Science Diet prescription food that has rice in it and he also gave me some antibiotics in pill form. Could you call him and ask to get a pill instead of liquid antibiotics? When muffin had to take liquid antibiotics the last time I had my husband cradle her in his arms, back down - tummy up and I pulled gently on her beard to open her mouth and quickly squired the medicine in her mouth. Mind you, some always landed in her beard but I figured some medicine was better than none! Hubby had to really hold her tight but it worked. Good luck! |
