| A question to those who have rescued/adopted a yorkie I know some benefits if I rescue or adopt a yorkie rather than buying a baby yorkie. However, not knowing its past and what trauma they've went through really makes me skeptical in rescuing one. For example, if they went through some trauma, won't they have bad temperaments such as shyness, anxiety, etc, etc? |

| I have a rescue, he was a surrender at 2 1/2 years old, not an abused dog. You can usually tell the demeanor of the dog when you go to see / meet them. Abused may be shy, slow in coming to greet you. Watch the dogs body language it will tell much about the dog. I was very fortunate, my boy was surrendered for financial reasons, he was loved much and spoiled rotten. The prev.owner wanted up dates on him, so I have contact with them. My boy bonded with me with-in 24 hours. I wish all rescues would be as mine was. Sometimes a shelter will know where there dog has come from say like a puppy mill, ones found wandering streets, no one will ever know what that dog has been through. My boy was a gift to me from my vet, when I went to see him he was in the lunch room where the techs take their breaks and some new small breed rescues were mingling. I sat and just watched his body language, how he interacted with the techs as they entered this room, how he approached the other dogs. What I saw was a friendly boy, wagging his little stump, greeting the techs. This was an unplanned adoption, after having to put down my 17 yo girl 6 weeks earlier I couldn't handle loosing another dog, watching this sweet lil guy, how could anyone give him up, it was the best unplanned thing I have ever done. He is a perfect boy. You will know what dog is right for you by just watching them for 5 to 10 minutes. Good luck.
