Crate Training Help!!! Miracle, my 5 month old yorkie, will not stop peeing in her crate AND now she has started pooping in the crate. I'm thinking I will move her into a smaller crate. Has anyone tried this successfully?

What size is the crate and what size is she? Is the crate too big for her? If she has too much room, she'll find a space at one end of the crate to pee and poop.

I am having the exact same problem with my 2nd yorkie, Casey, right now who is also 5 months! The first few days, I crated her like my first yorkie (who didn't have issues holding it for 4-5 hours between potty at 5 months). But, I found that she was peeing in the crate during the day. It was very frustrating! I have finally decided to let her sleep in the crate with the crate door open to use pee pads during the day. I've been watching her with a monitoring app - she can't seem to hold her pee more than 2-3 hours during the day, but she's really good at peeing on the pad. Keeping a schedule of her potty, I'm counting 6 to 7 pees (& 2 poops) in a day! It's not ideal because I wanted to potty train her to go outside just like my first, but I don't think I have a choice right now until she's able to hold in her pee for longer hours. I have a feeling it's because she's smaller, at only 3.75 lbs at 5 months, so her bladder probably isn't capable of holding the pee for that long. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, it's not just because she can't hold it. Because at night, she is able to hold from 10pm to 6am! So during the night, I close the crate door. I'm hoping that in a month, I can go back to crating her. I'm not sure if it'll work out crate training her later. It's probably going to be havoc since she's been used to having some space to walk around in during the day.

It is a 24 in. crate with a divider. I keep it divided. She is about 3 lbs. right now. The peeing and pooping happens mostly through the night AND she does not bark or anything to go out. She will bark to go out if she is in the crate during the day when we are home. She rings the bell by the door to go out during the day when she is out of the crate..

http://friendsofrowlettanimals.org/w...sebreaking.pdf By any chance did you withhold water during the day when you were at work (see Schedule No. 2)?
