| My Yorkie uses the bathroom everywhere Hello Everyone I am new to Yorkie Talk and I have a whole lot of questions! Can anyone tell me what I should do. I have a Yorkie who is 7 weeks and will only use the bathroom on my carpet. He can come straight from the pad and go to the carpet instead. What should I do. |

| Try these and see if they help. You are in for about 6 or more months of housetraining, so buckle down on that patience now http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ms-solved.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ebreaking.html

| At 7 weeks, I would keep the puppy in a very small space (i.e. a small area blocked off, without carpet) when you're monitoring him, without free-reign to roam your house. When you're not monitoring him, I would keep him in a x-pen or crate, but make sure to let him out every hour or so for him to potty on the pee pad. Scottie earned his freedom to my home. When he was monitored, he first only had access to a small room, then that room plus living room, then plus the kitchen area, and so on. By "earned", I mean he had no potty accidents. And when he did, I went back to square one with very limited space. When I wasn't available to monitor his each and every move, he was crated. This was a gradual process that spanned months during his first year. This was just me though - I believe in preventing all and any accidents whatsoever. And if you haven't read elsewhere already, puppies have a general capacity to hold in their potty for an hour per month-old, up to 8 months (i.e. if they're 1 month old, they can hold 1 to 2 hours; if they're 2 months old, they can hold 2 to 3 hours, etc). So generally, they can hold up to 8 hrs...

| Thank you. I think im.going to try this method and let him earn his way to each room with no potty accidents. That is a good idea. Its just hard crating him cause all he doea is cry. But when i leave it open he goes in by himself. But i believe im going to try this starting tomorrow thanks! Im patient and i know it will take time |

Just another note on crating... It's great that he's willing to go in by myself - try to keep it that way! I made sure Scottie LOVED his crate by associating it with positive things. I used to just use a couple towels, but one day, I found an old dirty pillow and instead of throwing it out, I stuffed it into his crate. Boy, did he love it! It was like his very own mattress! Think these little guys love comfort! So, I use towels as his 'bedsheets'. In addition to making it comfy, I also trained him that going into his crate and staying inside means he gets treats. Anyway, your little guy is so young, he's going to cry though when he's in his crate alone because he's lonely. Read up on the crate training and don't cave when they're crying (and have already pottied). Otherwise, you'll be in for a treat...he'll be training you to let him out every time he cries...and then that is harder to train out of. Also look up training on separation anxiety, so that he's trained to be calm and relaxed in his crate when you're away. Basically, leave him inside the crate in short intervals (i.e. 15 or 30 min) and then gradually work up to longer periods (i.e. an hour, two hours, and more) where you teach him that you eventually come back for him and when he's good and quiet, he gets a treat and your love If he's crying as soon as you close the crate door. Start with just a few minutes of the door closed and give him treats if he's quiet, and increase the time intervals from there.

| I use an IRIS pen (Amazon) and bought a large whelping pad (Amazon) for the floor, and put her bed, water, food, and a UGO potty(Amazon) in there. Then she would be confined to the iris pen, but has the potty to go on when she needs to go. I also used a spray called "Natures Miracle Housebreaking Potty Spray" on the pee pad.

| Yep all good advise and those little cutie pies love praise , praise , praise. So when you see them peeing on that pad you go do that happy dance for them and rub that little tummy😊 My youngest comes running for that ..lol Oh and make sure it is always clean. A dirty pad is an invitation to go somewhere else! Mine were edge pee'ers. So my hubby took a piece of cardboard, cut out about 5 inches high and as long as it wrapped around pad except for one corner they had to go on IN to pee. It WORKED! So he got a thin piece of plywood and made an edge to wrap around pad...I said " scallop the top please and make it look pretty?" He did and it solved our edge pee' ears problems! Lol
