| Yorkie Saves Dr's Life Try as he might, the HIV-positive doctor could not heal himself, at least not emotionally; ultimately he decided to get a dog...it was a little Yorkshire terrier he named Fred. And everything changed. "I had this little bundle of, like, pure joy," Garofalo says. "He made me re-engage with the world." But I'm not exaggerating when I say that he saved my life," says Garofalo, who'd considered suicide after his HIV diagnosis. His journey back to life started with simple things. He had to leave the apartment where he'd isolated himself to buy food for Fred. He had to talk to the many people who wanted to stop and pet the little dog. Even now, Garofalo gets emotional when he tells the story of coming downstairs to find his mother cradling the dog. "My mom was telling him that he was a miracle," Garofalo says, his eyes reddening, "because he had brought her son back." HIV- positive doctor says his dog saved his life...When Dogs Heal: About - When Dogs Heal |

| Piper has enriched and improved my life in so many ways...She gets me up and moving, but perhaps more importantly, she makes me laugh out loud everyday (it's just the two of us). And through Piper I've connected--even if just for a moment or two--with numerous, amazing people. And her affect is amazing. On one of our walks I noticed a couple of rather scruffy, ne'er do wells and suddenly one of them makes a beeline for us. I froze only to hear him say, "Hey, she's a little yorkie, right? I love these dogs, my mom had one." and as he reminisced I could just see him going back in time, his features briefly softening. He then thanked me for letting him pet Piper and walked on...leaving me bewildered and awed at the impact Yorkies, like no other dog I've ever seen, have on people--of all walks of life. |

| These pups are miracle workers! I suffer from a lot of blue days and isolated myself and had negative thoughts but Ted has brightened my world. I just force a cuddle whenever I get sad. Once I was so stressed from school I cried and Ted just laid on my feet and that's when I realized how simple life is just a heartbeat and his soothed me. I love my baby and so many have stories about these miracle workers I'll never understand why we only get these gifts for such a short time

| I honestly cannot immagine my life without Michi. I have only had him for 3 months but he has completely changed my life in that short time. I suffer from chronic depression since my parents and grandfather past awat. (my gpa was my hero...the love of my life). it was my doctor who suggested that I get a pet...I have never been a dog person but the moment I saw Michi I fell in love with him. He has been my best friend ever since and brightens every day. Even my kids tell me how much he has changed me. We ALL love him so much. HE IS A BLESSING! these dogs are more than just pets to us...more than family...they are life savers! |
