| Skittish / Cowers Hello All! I am new here and this is my first post. I am making it today because of what happened this morning that has been eating away with me. My dogs name is Tahiti she is mostly Yorkie but is half shih tzu. Almost all of her looks and traits come from the Yorkie side as far as I can tell. She is a great dog and I love her to death. She was easy to train and I never hit her. When I trained her I used a stern no and took her outside to the grass. I may have messed up socializing her a bit and she can be really skittish around new people and animals. After awhile she is fine usually though. I mean there is a cat at the house she plays with all of the time, I have seen her get used to other people too. Sometimes she will just be laying down and randomly get scared and jump out of bed. Is this a breed trait? Today she chased after a dog (my fault I didn't have her leash on this morning I was running late) and I think she could tell I was mad, when I picked her up she was yelping frantically and repeatedly like I was hurting her or she was in terrible pain. I can still hear the yelps and it's eating me up inside. Are the skittish things and general fear a Yorkie thing? If not how can I correct this. I just want her to be happy. General happiness inside the home is great, we play a lot and she is almost never alone. Any help is much appreciated. |

| Welcome. How old is she and how long have you had her? Yorkies can be skittish. She may have picked up on you being upset and got scared.

Any reason why she would be scared of me even when I don't hit or abuse her? | |

| I have a skittish/scared one. He was taken from mom at 12 months, so I know it is just his personality. From what you described, it sounds like excitement to me. Mine cries and whines like he's being beaten when I get home from work. It doesn't fail. Every. Single. Day. It's just him and how he is. He doesn't bark, instead he cries, whines, and screams. HAHA! My baby is so weird.

| I got my Izzy about a 18 months ago. She is now 5 1/2 years old. She was with the same person since she was 10 weeks old. I know this person very well and she only gave her up due to health issues. She would never abuse an animal. Izzy will rarely go to anyone. At times she screams and yelps like she's being beaten. However if I have her sling carrier she comes running. |
