| Side by Side pix Can ANYBODY post side by side pix Yorkies with a blue coat and black coat. After EVERYTHING I read I am still clueless to telling the difference. You can TELL me all you want but I need a pix to SEE. A pix from someone who has both with them in the same pix would be great but 2 pix side by side would be good too. Thanks so much, Sherry

| have you looked in Yorkie books I have a few that have great photos in them, or do a search on the net and pictures should show the difference in color. I was looking to try to post a link,, still looking found this though~ Color Puppies are born black and tan and are normally darker in body color, showing an intermingling of black hair in the tan until they are mature. The mature coat color occurs gradually, therefore puppies should not be faulted for lack of color change until they are two years old. The colors in adult dogs are: BLUE - a dark steel-blue. TAN - All tan hairs are darker at the roots than in the middle, shading to a still lighter tan at the tips. On the body, the dark steel-blue extends over the body, from the back of the neck to the root of the tail. The headfall is a rich golden tan, deeper in color at the sides of the head, at the ear roots and on the muzzle, with the ears being a deep rich tan. The tan color should not extend down the back of the neck. The hair on the chest and legs is, a bright, rich tan, not extending above the elbow on the forelegs or above the stifle on the hind legs. Faults: In adult dogs, fawn or bronze hairs mingling with silver-blue color. Sooty or black hair intermingled with the tan. Disqualifications: Any change in coat color by artificial means. Albinism.

| Sherry, I'm not 100% sure...but I think that Syd is a blue and gold. This is a picture. It's not great quality...and everyone...I swear that my dog's hair is not usually cut like this...but I had just butched her for the hot summer. This is just the only pic I have on my computer where you can see her back and she isn't wearing a sweater. |

| So you would consider Tatum a "blue" since she has silver threads in her black? I wondered how she would turn out because her dad is a very dark black and gold and her mom is very silver and light tan. She's almost two years old so I'm guessing she's about finished changing. This picture was from one year old and she hasn't changed since then in her coloring. Gotta say though that I really love the dark black coloring of your Mercedes!

On another note, just for curiosity sake.... if/when we ever get another Yorkie and I wanted a darker color, is there any way to try to predict what the babies would do later in their coloring? I know there's no guarantees but I guess if the mom and dad were both black, chances would be good the baby would stay black, right? Just wondering.

| Mercedes is just coming on 14 months old, she has no indication of breaking on her saddle she hasnt even cleared on her head. To guarantee that her offspring will be black or even dark is a crap shoot. If you breed black to black will not guarantee a black but you will have a better chance. If silver traces back in either dam/sire pedigree silver can become the dominate.
