new to yorkie talk Hi I have a female maltese and decided to adopted a female yorkie from a rescue, her previous owner used her to breed only how sad? Shes 3 and hasn't been taught any basic commands! I know I have my work cut out for me but Im in it for the long haul. She has to be taught everything....so far shes learn to potty outside in the 4 days I've had her. Shes still a little shy but shes attached herself to me right off. Alll it took was some treats and grooming on my part . Im working on teaching "come" and "sit" will take some time but I wont give up on her....if i taught my maltese to sit, stay, come, up, no, quiet, peek a boo, hi five, shake etc in a few weeks im hoping i will have some luck with Miracle soon she such a sweetie!

Welcome. Thank you for taking in that poor little dog. Is she a puppy mill breeder? Sounds like she was kept caged most of her life. There is a thread in the "sticky" area of the general training fourm about working with puppy mill rescues. It may have some helpful hints for you. Best wishes for you and your little furry family! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...nt-advice.html

Thanks so much for the support! GracieLove she was living with a woman in her home who just kept her caged and pregnant for the most part, when I got Miracle she could hardly stand she was so thin and u could see her bones and ribs! Her poor ears were infected with yeast I cried for this poor baby. She's gained a little weight and she's not only walking but runs around with Bunny(maltese) I'm working on fattening her up and using zymox on her ears and oatmeal bathes with vets best hot spot relief for her itching. Her ears no longer red, and she's scratching less. She has the most beautiful big eyes I've ever seen! Thanks for the helpful links! I will keep u guys posted on her progress

It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job with her. She has gone through much of the same stresses that a puppy mill dog would have. They do respond well to love and a healthy lifestyle. Would love to see her when you get a chance to share some pictures.

Waving HELLO from the other side of Dallas. It sounds like your new baby will have a wonderful life with you and Bunny. There is a TX meetup group here and we get to meet for a play day once or twice a year. Looking forward to hearing how little Miracle is progressing.
