| I have always used the Advantage products. Gracie is on Advantage II during flea season. I have heard that Bio Spot is a waste of money. Advantage II has been working great. If you have fleas inside you need to treat the home by vacuuming on and under every bit of furniture and floor surface and washing all bedding. One flea can lay thousands of eggs in your home and the darn things hatch! When your dog is being inundated with fleas even the best flea preventative will not last the full month and will need to be reapplied sooner. It's not recommended to keep doing that though. It's best to do everything you can to get rid of fleas and eggs in the home and then your pet won't have them jumping on him anymore. |

| I use advantix. I have heard Advantage is good for fleas but I personally have never used it because our problem seems to be ticks. You don't need a prescription for flea and tick preventive.

| I used to use Advantage for my other dog till my friend's dog died from that stuff. There were too many reports of dogs under 20lbs being killed from using Frontline and Advantage for me to even risk it. |

| I apply only during the warm months and skip it during the winter. We only have to get a prescription for heartworm meds. You can get flea preventative online for way cheaper than at your vet's office.

| I have used Advantage products since they first came out for dogs and cats. Never had an issue. Our Shih Tzu had a severe allergy to fleas and we had to have something that worked well. Since we live up north I only have to use it about 5 months out of the year. The online outlets that sell these products usually reduce their prices at the end of summer so it's a great time to buy it for next year. Many vets offices will sell you a tube of Advantage or Frontline for around $13.00 for a small dog or puppy. It may help people who cannot afford to buy a whole package. |

EPA Putting Tighter Leash on Makers of Flea and Tick Products Pets and pesticides: Let's be careful out there | The Center for Public Integrity Flea and tick products under fire from pet owners, vets say the pesticides are safe dog rescue network http://www.dailypuppy.com/articles/d...medication_835. Beware Exposure from Flea Treatments Flea treatments with fipronil com- monly involve applying a small amount of insecticide to the nape of a pet’s neck. The fipronil then binds to fatty material in the skin and hair cells where it is slowly released and spreads throughout the animal’s skin and fur. Scientists at Murray State University studied the potential for veterinarians, groomers, and pet owners to be ex- posed to fipronil following a flea treat- ment. They found, during the first month after treatment, that petting an animal transferred fipronil from the animal to the person doing the pet- ting. The amount of fipronil transferred was greatest one day after treatment. The researchers concluded that “re- peated exposure to such contamina- tion can pose human health risks.”26 Fipronil on treated pets persists for at least 56 days following treatment according to pharmacologists working for a fipronil manufacturer.27
