Yorkie Yakker | Air travel with Sammy Hi everyone, I am flying in August with Sammy. His first time to fly. I am a bit worried because he does get car sick sometimes. Can anyone give me any suggestions on preparing myself and Sammy for the flight. He will be almost 9 months by then. Thanks |

| There is a lot of info on the travel board. Here is one thread that contains quite a bit of info. Good luck! I fly with Sugar frequently and she does great http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tra...och-cabin.html

| I have always given my pups a very small piece of a dramamine tablet, it seems to work and makes them sleepy. I am not a vet, so you should ask yours, he might tell you how much or have something else, whatever he gives you make sure it has sedative effect, believe me it will be easier on you and him if your dog sleeps a lot. Make sure your carrier has plenty of air vents, is nice and roomy, and closes well. Most flight attendants make a big deal about keeping your pet underneath the seat, if yours is comfortable that way leave best alone and leave him there. I tend to try to sneak Lola out so I get a window seat and bring a scarf to throw over her. But I am a wreck the whole flight because I am constantly watching for a FA to walk by. I found it helps if you hide your pet from the crew when boarding, this way they are not watching you so carefully. If he likes toys or something like a bully stick bring that along, LOL just not a loud squeaky one. Also I try my best to time it so Lola will need to potty just before we check in. She will only go on grass so it is often stressful trying to find grass around the airport. One of my best pieces of advice is to give yourself close to an hour extra, usually you have to check in at the counter, the airlines I fly will not let me check in on line if a pet is attached to my ticket, you also need to alow time for potty, if he uses a pad bring those with you, you can always put them on it in the restroom, and if you get a private one, you can use the top of the baby changing station. I also put a diaper on Lola the first time we flew. I would also pack a one or two small junky towels, this way if he has an accident you can clean him up and ditch the towel. Now for my fun suggestion which I gave to Amyee when she traveled with Katie Scarlet, bring a camera and take some photos starting from when you check in. Then get off the plane last and ask if the pilot and flight attendants will pose with Sammy, I posted a few from a recent trip I took with Lola. And Amyee got some good ones of KS. Enjoy the trip and hopefully you will have photos to share on your return.
