| A Bulls Penis a.k.a. Pizzle or Bullysticks....I can't stop thinking about this (see my other thread of "Humor - threads I can't read"). I am not judging just commenting on this cuz I can't stop laughing at it... We argue passionately at times about things with our yorkies, we vet them, we try to feed them the best food, the best care, we try to help others here too...and then I find out some of the very same people I respect and look up to for advice and good information, the same people who help me through crisis after crisis, nutrition for my dog, tips for behavior, I trust you people with my babies sight unseen, and then I find out your giving your little precious babies a bulls penis to chew on??? lmao! I love you guys! This is the best forum I've ever been in, just love it all!

| In my opinion it's one of the best bones out there when odor free and made in America. They are 100% digestable. I think if your going to kill an animal for food you should try to use every part of the animal as possible so at least that part is not going to waste lol. What bones do your dogs eat/ chew?

| Here's a little info on them - and I was literally LOL'ing while I read this: Bully sticks, also known as beef pizzles, pizzle sticks, beef sticks, steer stix, are made from 100% bull penises. Bull penis is a single ingredient of bully sticks. Some suppliers and merchants say that they sell bully sticks made of "beef tendons" or "dried muscles" as that part of the anatomy is a tendon and muscle indeed, and this may sound less repulsive for some people with psychological barrier thinking of feeding bull privates to their furbabies. In the beginning of manufacturing process the bull's penis that is usually 23-25 inches long, is removed and cleaned. It is hung vertically for the fluids contained to fully drain. Without these fluids bully sticks are odor free. At the next stage of processing bull penises are stretched, twisted or braided, dried and then may be smoked for flavor. The result is a 30-40 inches long very hard brown stick which is cut into pieces suitable for dogs of any size. Thus you can buy small bully sticks of 4'', large beef pizzles of 30 inches and any length between, such as 5'', 6'', 7'', 9'' and 12''. As bully sticks are 100% natural product, thickness, shape and color may slighty vary. Compared to other dog chews, bully sticks last incredibly long time. It can take weeks for a small dog to chew on one bully stick, while large breeds may enjoy chewing of bull pizzles between a few hours and a few days.

I wonder who there test subjects where when they say they can last incredibly long? Mine can eat a 12" one in hours as well as my moms.

| My fur kids LOVE them!!! I always stick them in a kong so they can't choke on the last little chunk... Had a scare with that once!! Yes, they do get gooey, but I'm not the one chewing in it, so I don't care!!!

| I try really hard NOT to think about bully sticks! If you know your physiology you know that the bully stick is a lean piece of muscle cut and dried for our puppies use. My little girl needs to chew and I wouldn't dream of giving her rawhide and other chew items are not nearly as safe and healthy. When I first heard of them and what they are made of I thought "NO! No way am I buying that!" However, with Gracie stealing everything she could get her mouth on and chewing things to bits I had to admit defeat and buy the "sticks." I put a block somewhere in my mind on this subject. I place my order every couple of months and hope that no one else asks me to explain what they are! |

| hahaha, I get really strange looks when I tell people what they are. My Maggie loves, loves, love her bullies. As icky as they sound, they keep her happy and her teeth are benefitting from them.

| I bought a package a while ago and when the ends would get soggy they stunk to high heaven, but my Lexie was crazy for them. And her breath afterwards was rank *shudders* lol. I give her fresh raw meaty bones now |
