| Vectra 3D flea and tick I went to the vet to get some more flea and tick medicine today. We have been using Frontline Plus and it's been okay so far. Sophia HATES it being put on, but I just figured that was normal. We found one tick on her a few months ago, but that's it. The Vet said that they've been questioning the efficacy of that brand lately, and it seems like the dogs have been having better luck with Vectra 3D. It was on a deal where you buy 6 months worth, and you get 3 free. So I figured we'd give it a shot. Does anyone here use it? or have an opinion about it? Thanks!

| Never heard much about Vectra 3D but I have to say... I am not a Frontline fan anymore. It just does not seem to work around here and I see you are fairly close to me in MD Jackson used to get ticks ALL the time, even got Lymes once. This was the summer of 2010, I believe, and he was on Frontline all summer, but I still was always finding ticks. I switched to K9 Advantix and the problem went away. In summer '11, I gave him one dose of Advantix in June and then did not give him anything until October, did not have a problem with ticks all summer, we maybe saw one. Anyways, so in October, gave him the Frontline dose, then in November, gave him again. Suddenly, I'm getting one tick a week off him. I REALLY am thinking they are attracted to the stuff or something! It's crazy. So he has not had a FL dosage since first week in November and all of Dec and Jan has been fine (and as you know, it's been unusually warm...) So anyways, some are not comfortable with the permiterin (sp?) in Advantix but I feel more confident using it maybe once every 3 months and having it last, vs. using Frontline every 2 weeks (which seems to be the max it lasts until I begin seeing ticks). I do use heartworm medicine all year and find it much more important. I am definitely curious about the Vectra 3D as our vet carries it too.

| That's good to know! If this Vectra doesn't work well, I'll give the Advantix a shot. I didn't realize how expensive the Vectra was either until I just looked at my receipt. 85 bucks! So much for me thinking I got a good deal. The Vectra has the permethrin in it too. The mixed reviews online made me a bit nervous... so I figured I'd get the YT opinions!

| I also switched from Frontline to K9 Advantix II for my two other dogs. Oscar is on Revolution because that is what the breeder used on him.. Last edited by MY OSCAR; 01-25-2012 at 02:21 PM. |

| My vet also recommends this. I would love to hear more about it myself.

| Yep. When I put it on, I take her on a half hour walk to distract her from it. Then we get inside, and she runs against the wall for a good 20 minutes!

| That sounds like an allergic reaction and I would suggest not using it again. It could really be causing her pain and burning.

| I mentioned it to the vet and she suggested the walk and acted like it was no big deal. I hope it's not an allergic reaction. I didn't think about that !!!!

| I don't think its a normal reaction at least not in my opinion and if I the flea and tick stuff I was using on Callie did that I would not use it again.

| It could be allergic reaction. My girls don't do that either.

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | I've never heard of that brand but you guys have me curious. We have KS on Frontline, but this will be her first spring/summer with us. I am not too far from Maryland either. I may have to see about these other brands as well.

| My vet don't even recommend Frontline any more. He said it isn't as effective as it used to be. We use Advantix right now but he is changing his recommendation to the Vectra.

| Have you asked your vet how well Frontline works in your area? They should be able to tell you if it's been working for their patients or not.

| Cody is on Vectra and is in MD not far from you. As long as we give it to him monthly, it works. He doesn't seem to notice it at all after we do it. And, bonus, it actually smells nice on him. PS - So many YTers near here! I know Cody would love some yorkie pals. Just sayin'. Last edited by SweetLifetime; 01-25-2012 at 06:02 PM. |
