| Lick lick lick!!!! My Mack is a lover, er I mean a LICKER! He wakes you up licking, he goes to sleep licking. His strangest habit is licking the furniture... He will lick a huge area and make a nice big wet spot. (which isn't too great when you unknowingly sit down and slowly feel your rear getting wet) Every morning, he sits beside the bathtub anxiously waiting for me to get out so he can lick my toes! Although we LOVE how affectionate he is, and for the most part all of his kisses are adorable... Sometimes enough is enough!! Anyones baby have this same habit?

Katie Scarlett's Mommy Donating Member | Katie Scarlett is a licker too, but only with her Daddy. When my husband comes home, she hops up on the couch and waits for the routine. She'll watch him put his stuff away, get into jammies, and then sit down. Then she plops up on his chest and licks at his face and beard for as long as he will let her. She cracks us up!

| Haha Kaos is a licker! The funniest is when he was a puppy..he used to lick blankets and pillows on my bed until he fell asleep. I figured it just relaxed him.

| Why Do They LICK So Much ? Trainers study behavior and I have studied licking. I know we have to train therapy dogs NOT to lick. This is my personal thoughts about licking. 1. Affection, short little licks, show affection 2. Excitement, Rapid excited licking, is to calm down. We have trained our Yorkies that friendly nipping and mouthing is not acceptable. Some dogs will grab a toy to control this nipping behavior. 3. Grooming, Slow leisurely licking is mutual grooming behavior. They are grooming you, they can not hold a comb or brush, you but they can lick you. Some trainers call this parenting behavior. Both male and female dogs lick puppies and other dogs. 4.Ownership, Claiming licks are different in the tempo and manner. Often the dog will put both paws on the person claiming them and will sometimes jump to get to the face area. I have noticed that dogs who are allowed to do this claiming type licking may growl and even bite if interrupted. And they don't want others to show or get affection with their person. 5. Appeasement Licking is similar to what small puppies do to show they are humble and friendly. Sometime this type of licking is accompanied by submissive posture and even belly up position. 6. Enough Kisses is a gently spoken cue for them to stop licking. It is important to end the licking on your terms. I am surprised that people often bulk at this simple discipline. It is mentally healthy for your dog to know when enough is, is enough. Sometimes I can almost 'see' a dog sigh in relief when told Enough Kisses.

| My pup is kinda into his own thing, meaning he is not a cuddle lap dog all the time, just when he wants to be -BUT he does love giving "kisses". I can say give momma a kiss and the licking begins. I wake up to licking/kisses every morning and even though I get the pup morning breath - I love it. Great way to start the day off.

| YES! Dex licks ALL OF THE TIME! He has recently gotten really bad about licking the bed sheets, which I loath! I really do not mind him licking me, but I do not like for him to lick my clothes or sheets, towels, etc, All of which he LOVES to lick haha! I am slowly training him not to do this, it seems to be working...umm slightly GoodLICK! |
