| First Grooming Hi all! Toby is now 21 weeks and I took him for his first grooming last weekend at Petco. I was really impressed as his body was pretty matted. They had to shave his body and trimmed his face. They cleaned his ears too. I ended up having to buy him a sweater because he gets so cold. Does anyone know if shaving a yorkie's puppy coat is bad? His hair is growing quickly and looks fine, but I brush it daily so that it will not mat. It is coming in more steel blue. I also weighed and measured my Little Man today. He is 7" long, 4.5" tall and weighs 2 lbs, 2 oz. Several people asked me if I paid more than $3000 for him because of his size, I just laugh it off and tell them I did not, and that his brother is actually quite a bit larger than he is. Are these measurements pretty normal, the groomer asked me if my vet had checked out his liver based on his tiny size, but my vet has said that some yorkies come in smaller packages than others and that as long as he shows no red flags, we will not test until I decide to neuter him. Has anyone here been told that just based on size means that an issue can be present? I mean, I trust my vet way more than a groomer, but it is still itching in the back of my mind. Thanks in advance! |

| The most important thing to keep your puppy healthy, is a good Vet. Follow his/ her advice, ask lots of questions. Read and learn all you can about Yorkies. Welcome to YT !

| Glad your first grooming went well. I dont think there is anything wrong with shaving a puppies coat Callie had to have hers shaved when she was a puppy because of matting. I keep her in a puppy cut so her body is always getting shaved.

| Ahi's brother from another mother.(and father lol) hmmm...i'm glad you brought that up about the liver thing. I need to ask Ahi's vet about that too. I'm glad you had a good experience! I have to much anxiety to have someone take her from me yet. I might have to go to a local groomer that will let me stay there and watch.
