Owned by Bella & Tibbs Donating Member | Hello! Hello my name is Valenie I am new to the Yorkie community! I am a 23 year old mom to a 3 year old son named Adam and post nursing student I graduated in may from RN school! I am also a new Yorkie mom! I got my baby boy Tibbers in may as a graduation present from my husband! I love him he was born on April 7th 2011! When I got him I fell in love with him and decided that I should get him a play mate! After looking locally I found a perfect baby girl! She was born June 6th 2011 I can not wait until she is ready to come home! We have decided to name her Bella! I am a new dog owner and I am having some trouble with potty training any advice would be really appreciated! I suppose that's about it!

| Hi Welcome to YT! Congrats on everything! Potty training, eh, it's people patience training with Yorkies - LOL! I use potty pads with my two gremlins. They are doing really well all things considered. Mine are a few weeks older than your little guy. I am have been using rewards when mine go on the right place. I got a tube of peanut butter that Kong makes to fill up Kongs. I squeeze out a tiny bit and use that. They do not need a lot of treat, just a tiny bit. The tube is great because they get to lick it and think they are getting more than they are. If you are training them outside (I have a lot of friends with big dogs) a lot of people go out every hour then two, etc. until they can hold it longer. Yorkies are super smart and stubborn. They just need a lot of time and patience. Don't worry, you guys will get there. Two is not really much harder than one - they play off of each other. When one gets the reward, the other will run over and go potty real quick for some treat too! |

Owned by Bella & Tibbs Donating Member | He has been doing great peeing on the pads but pooping is a whole different ball game he will poop outside and was doing good there but where he broke his leg we cant get the cast wet or dirty so we are back to square one. Yeah when he pees I do the treat thing not a whole treat just a part of a treat.

| Hey Valenie, I am having the same problem with my baby. She mostly pees on her pad. It's the poop part i'm trying to get down. I can tell when she's gonna go.(she runs in crazy little circles LOL) But she once pooped in her own spot a few feet away from her pad and since then prefers to go there. I'm having a hard time getting her to poop on her pad again. Her Vet said to have more than one place for her to "go" on cause she's so little and can't always make it there on time. So for now she has two pads. Maybe having a couple of places for him to go on will work for him? Plus I don't change it right away once she pees. I try to wait till she pees on it several times. The scent of her pee reminds her that, that is her potty place. So after a day and a half I change it. She's so tiny her pee spots are little. And it doesn't stink. Hope all goes well. Roni~ |

Owned by Bella & Tibbs Donating Member | Yeah he sniffs a lot! And he does this squat thing for like 2 mins before he actually poops. He's doing a little better. I do keep 3 pads down but where he cant get on his leg that much its hard to let him have much of a choice and sniff around like he use to.

| Welcome Valenie and Adam. Potty training is mostly Us learning to read the signs. I have 2 puppies in training right now. Abba and Ginny Joy are doing pretty well, no more accidents in their crate this week. I think it took about 2 weeks for them to get the idea. |
