| Silky terrior now???!!! Ok for some reason I was googling some stuff on yorkies and came upon a page about the difference btw yorkshire terriers and silky terriers. I browsed through the differences why people often mistaken them for another. And then..............I realized all the characteristics of the silky terrier and the body type matched my little girl Jada. So now I'm on a mission to find out if she really is a yorkshire or a silky! Can someone please help me on this? It said the silky's body is slightly longer and that's how Jada is. She's longer in length. It also said her hair will only grow to knee size and that's how her coat is. Her nose is also longer and more protuding out as said in the silky review. So now I'm so clueless..all this time I knew she was different than my other yorkie Kobe, but I always thought she might have been a red legged yorkie. I don't care if she is a silky, bc I love her so much now! But I just wanna find out what she really is. And disappointed at myself for not knowing when I got her. But she's also AKC registered too. Can you guys please help me out if possible? Thanks! |

| I'm clueless, too! Jackson also fits most of the standards of a Silky. He's longer than he is tall. His snout is longer. His ears are bigger/more pointed. He weighs more. Personality-wise, he fits all Silky descriptions to a tee, too. I am not sure if there is a way to 100% prove it, really. If there was, I'd do it.

| looks way more yorkie in the face. i have a yorkie and a silky and they don't look ANYTHING like a yorkie at all to me. they are longer, shorter, thicker blue hair, but the face would be a bit longer and different and yours might be a silky/yorkie mix at most but defin don't see full silky in her. your yorkie in the last picture on the right looks EXACTLY like my Sadie in the face. WOW |

| Difference Between Yorkie and Silky | Difference Between | Yorkie vs Silky Do your babies have coarse fur? Says Silkies have more coarse fur than Yorkies. I don't know, I'm just as curious about this.

| It was just yesterday that I posted about my own girl even being a yorkie.... It is amazing how these little ones can vary in size and color. Looking at Jada's pictures she looks like a sweet little yorkie to me. But, i did see that she has a little longer snout.

| Funny you posted this, a few months ago, maybe even last year, i got a message on here telling me that Fiona does not look like a yorkie, and that she is a silky! I have nothing against silky's and i just think its funny that someone who doesnt know me, or fiona is going to straight out tell me what she is!? LOL! Fiona is all yorkie, and just because she is a bigger yorkie, shouldnt make her a silky! tee hee!

| Here we go again LOL. Both your babies look like Yorkies to me. Most Yorkies miss the AKC standard of ideal. That is why they are sold as pets and not show dogs. When we see show dogs we think maybe hum... why is my dog different ? Think about it this way.. A human super model on the runway, tall, thin, blue eyes, flaming red hair, perfect bones and features; then look at me, short, a little chubby, grey hair, slight limp and thick glasses. Yes, we are both purebred humans. |

| I can't help but wonder if some silky gets mixed in with some breeders, considering the popularity of yorkies. My son has a dog that is papered as a yorkie but I swear he is at least part silky. Your Kobe looks a lot like my Maggie. Our other yorkie, Ginger, is a larger yorkie, but does not seem to follow any of the characteristics listed for a silky. She is not long at all either, definitely not any longer than tall. We had a neighbor swear that Ginger was not a yorkie but had to be a silky because of her size. She is in the 10-11 lb range. I have asked several "knowledgeable" people and they all say she's a yorkie. Maybe your Jada is part silky, maybe she's not. Does it really matter? She's a real sweetheart! |

| This is how yorkies looked like about 200 years ago: http://chestofbooks.com/animals/dogs...C-S-B-7822.jpg Sooo, your yorkie is propably a yorkie ! About 150-300 years ago the silky terrier didnt exist, the yorkshire terrier then and the silky terrier today looked almost alike ! the Yorkie had much longer nose, its color was maybe darker or lighter than todays yorkie, they were much much bigger (from 6-13 kilo's), with longer bodys and shorter legs. The Yorkshire Terrier and the Australian Terrier were mixed together to create the Australian Silky Terrier, and today the Yorkie has changed so much its almost just some other breed now than 200-300 years ago, they have much shorter backs, longer legs, shorter noses, they are much much smaller in size and often not as muscular. My neighbour owns a yorkie from the old british yorkie lines, she's very big (5-6 kilo's), almost all just cream colored nothing steelblue on her or gray, she has long pointy nose , short legs and long back, and is VERY muscular, almost like a whippet ! That kind of yorkies should have been still breed today they are sooo beautiful and perfect working dogs, my neighbours dog kills rabbits all the time ! and she gets crazy if she see's a cat then she's going to kill it, she's a hunting dog in her soul haha Fun to say but the yorkie on the picture i put in is Fido's relative .... so cool !
