| Microchip.. Just how useful? Harley is microchipped but I was just wondering how helpful it really would be if he were to go missing.. AKA STOLEN! Because as far I've been made aware is that they are only scanned if they are brought into a rescue, shelter, humane society etc. So if someone was to steal him it would be no use to me otherwise correct? I WISH that the Avid microchip company had it's own satellite and you could pin point your furbabies location no matter where they were and go rescue them!!

| Its probably not real useful if there stolen unless that person takes the dog to the vet and the vet scans them and finds out it has a different owner. I have both of mine microchipped also.

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I've wondered that, myself. If someone were to steal one and after a few months, take it to the vet, how many vets would scan the dog to see who it belonged to? I agree...like one of those trackers that can pin point their location anywhere in the world...now THAT, I would do!

| Edie is chipped, but I guess it is only one tool that could bring her back to me if she were lost or stolen. Edie also wears a tag when we travel that has mhy cell phone no. on it, since I travel with my cell phone. It's impossible to predict what will be useful and what will not be, so I have just tried to cover all my bases. |

| Microchipping is better than nothing, but it has its problems also. Did you know this? It's now common for pet owners to insert a tiny microchip under their pets' skin to help identify lost pets. But conflicting equipment and practices between the major scanning companies has prevented some animals from being found. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...toryId=4783788

Donating YT 14K Club Member | When I'd taken my mother's malt in to my vet, it was the first time he'd seen her. I could have just picked her up off the street. They didn't scan her at all and this is a nice vet facility...not some country one someone may think...because I live in Texas. That's all I'm saying. How many vet offices...unless maybe it's in a big city...actually scan every dog that comes in???
