| You mean your specific dog and not just the breed as a whole? Unless someone has access to all the registries(and why would each of them give it out to be used this way?) and your dog's ancestors have been entered into a registry all for several generations, I don't see any way that would be possible with a specific dog. Mayabe someone else out there knows if AKC and others would allow such access out of pure altruism but I don't think so.

| The only way I know that you can get a free copy is in your puppy pack from the breeder, if they do it. I include a copy of my Sire and Dame's pedigree with each puppy. (at least I did with the Papillons). If you did not get it at the time when you got your puppy then maybe the breeder will send you a copy if you ask. |

So many casual or BYB's just don't offer anything like that at all. I was astounded during the year I was looking for Tibbe and would break down and call newspaper ads how many Yorkie breeders here offer no such thing as a pedigree! Some asked me things like "Do you want a great dog raised by a loving family or one of those inbred freaks with a piece of paper?" - other such revealing things. Even for an unsophisticated and ill-informed Yorkie lover like me with little experience in the fancy, their attitude and responses about a pedigree were pretty interesting. Many of them filled me in about the show Yorkie breeders and the horrors they said were associated with "show line breeding" I think is one phrase used. Even I knew better than that and very quickly closed such calls. To the uninitiated out there looking for a Yorkie in this area, many BYB's really know how to play the game and posture about their breeding for a "good family dog" supposedly free from all the inferred problems that "high-class" breeders obviously don't care about and on and on. It is a very eye-opening experience to see the class warfare some of them wage on respectable Yorkshire Terrier breeders. "Pedigree? What good is that and why would you want it?" is the attitude of some I spoke with during my search. I got the feeling with more than one BYB that asking about lineage was talking dirty!

The true purpose for a pedigree is a map for a breeder, assisting them in making the correct choices in breeding. Other's use it as an advertising ploy, i.e. champion lines, championed sired.
