| I need help with Belle!!!!!! We got our new puppy yesterday and Belle is scared to death of him! She wants to sniff him but won't get down off our laps or the couch and worst of all, she won't eat! I'm so worried as she has to eat or she starts throwing up. She acts like she wants to play with him and she wags her tail at him from the couch but she's scared when they are both on the floor. I think it scares her when he wants to (or she thinks he wants to) sniff her butt. I'm in tears and my heart is acting up over the stress of her not eating. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Please help me! |

| First of all ~ chill. Belle is going to pick up on your stress vibes so try and keep those in check (though I know it's hard when you are introducing a new puppy in the home). Belle might take a few days to warm up to the newcomer; as I mentioned in another post, it took Ringo about a month to settle down. Belle might go off her food today while she adjusts; perhaps you could try to give her a treat or so when you guys are alone and the new puppy is not around. Belle will adjust in her own time and her own way. In the meantime, pay special attention to Belle. Do not pay more attention to your new puppy than you do to Belle. Give Belle everything first; your lap; your greeting; your attention; any treats; any toys, etc - Belle is first for EVERYTHING right now. Reassure her that she has not lost her status in your house. Things will get better but it might take a little time.

| help with Belle Thank you for your advice. I will try to calm down, not easy when dh is upset too and we are both frustrated. I just worry mostly about Belle not eating. the other stuff I can deal with. She seems to want to play with him but she wants to be on the couch and him on the floor. They play alike, jumping and hopping at each other. She is paranoid about her butt for some reason. She was fine with our Lab and they played and ate together but maybe because he was here before Belle. After we lost him in Sept. she has been lonely, thought another puppy would be good. Hope it works out and she will accept him. This is his home now too and when we have a puppy or dog, this is their forever home. |

If she's still not eating tomorrow; then I might worry. But you might can get her to eat a treat or something IF the puppy is not around. Hang in there; it will get better!
