| We won yes to prop b!!!!!!!!!!! wowowowowoow thanks to everyone whom voted yes to prop B, this is an email just sent to me. Thanks again. November 3, 2010 Thousands of dogs will soon enjoy a better life -- and they have you to thank. Missourians voted YES! on Prop B, and chose to save dogs suffering in Missouri puppy mills. You made this victory happen. Whether you donated to keep our TV ads on the air, spent your nights phone banking for Prop B, hit the pavement with leaflets, gathered signatures from registered voters, or engaged your friends and family in Missouri -- you helped show millions of Missouri voters what Prop B would mean for dogs. We are grateful to the citizens of Missouri for voting to crack down on puppy mill abuses and establish common-sense standards for the care of dogs at large scale facilities. Finally these creatures will have relief from being crammed into small and filthy cages, without veterinary care, exercise, or human affection. If we can do it here in the nation’s largest puppy mill state, we are more likely to see similar reforms enacted in other states, where the industry is not nearly as strong and entrenched. Dogs should be treated like family pets, not like breeding machines or a cash crop. We look forward to working with commercial breeders to transition to more humane systems and setting a new high bar within this industry. Missouri lawmakers and state officials should heed this message from the people, and immediately step up enforcement efforts to crack down on inhumane breeding operations. How dogs are treated is so important to all of us -- and even more important to the dogs who have been suffering every day in Missouri’s puppy mills. Together, we fought for a better life for puppy mill dogs, and together, we won. Quite apart from human rights, decent people everywhere could never accept a society so depraved and bereft of common decency as to accept the skinning of live animals as acceptable behaviour. It’s burgeoning economy has resulted from flooding the world with cheap consumer products produced by a cheap unregulated work force. A fact that is understandable, having regard to its enormous population and fantastic work ethic. In turn, China has developed an insatiable appetite for raw product from other countries and governments keen to export to China are reluctant to criticise or offend the Chinese government. Given this background, will your government impose economic sanctions against China or openly criticise the Chinese government or demand that it puts a stop to the Chinese cat and dog fur trade? Most unlikely. However, there will surely be individuals within governments, so incensed and horrified by the trade that they will support Our Cause. The Chinese government is well aware of the economic power play behind the scenes. It also knows it has a long way to go earn acceptance from the free world. And make no mistake, China absolutely craves acceptance as a world leader that is trusted and respected and there are emerging signs that it is prepared to adopt more acceptable and responsible policies to earn that acceptance. It knows that if it behaves or permits behaviour that is abhorrent to people of the democratic world, it will not earn the trust or respect it craves. Its our duty to show China that it can take a single , but highly significant step towards overcoming the prejudice of the millions of free-thinking decent people, if it recognises animal rights and, in particular, abolishes the abhorrent trade in cat and dog fur. Cat and dog pelts sell for about US$1 each and every year, 2,000,000 cats and dogs suffer a horrific death, skinned alive for the pelts. For what? 1. An insignificant contribution towards the Chinese economy - a few million US$; and 2. A clear message to the world that so long as the Chinese government permits the trade, China is not fit to take its place as a leading nation and certainly not one that is entitled to any trust or respect. The “adverse fallout” and abhorrence for the Chinese government resulting from the trade will far exceeds the paltry contribution it makes towards China’s economy. It is in China’s interest, to abolish the trade. It’s our duty to tell the world about the trade and kick up such a stink that our message reverberates around the world. Remember Tianamen Square. Let’s make this another Tianamen Square – this time, for the animals. Please sign the Online Petition. It’s the First Step in Our Fight!” |

| you guys have no idea how bad this really is for the state of MO. thanks to the votes of uneducated people MO now will not have the funds to put forth this program and millions of puppies all over the state will probably be euthanized. families will go without any food or water this winter due to no funding or financial hardships coming from this proposition, and HSUS will move on to yet another multimillion dollar proposition about shutting down all forms of breeding, pet ownership, and livestock operations....those of you from other states you have no idea how bad this is going to be for our economy and i really appreciate that several members of my family and other friends are now going to suffer as will their dogs for this stupid proposition. |

First, the notion that passage of Prop. B will end the suffering of dogs in Missouri is just so much PR....really sounds like BS to me. Did we really wake up to a bright new dawn? Secondly, there is an admission that passage of Prop. B doesn't change anything without additional enforcement. Which begs the obvious question. Was a new law needed or just enforcement of current laws? I really believe Missourians were guilt-tripped into voting for this by using emotionally charged phrases and implying this bill would deliver more than it possibly could. This law will only affect licensed breeders. It will do nothing to stop those that are flying under the radar, which, presumably, is where the worst abuses are happening. Here's a link that shows the difference between Prop. B and the current laws. After reading, can anyone truly say that 'progress' has been made? Would Prop B Really Help Puppies? - Show-Me Daily
