| OMG What Have I Done Since I got my dogs I have trying to get them to potty outdoors. Zach was my last dog and at first he wouldn't go out at all. Now I can't keep him indoors. They used to use a wee wee pad and on a nasty day I would keep them inside. Now they wont use the wee wee pad at all and they only do their business outdoors. If I don't let them out they sit at the door and scream and bark. So far the weather has been kind of on the warm side, but I'm worried about what happens when it gets cold. The two little ones have jackets and raincoats but I'm so afraid that Zach will get sick. I was so busy trying to train them to go out I didn't think of that I would do in the cold weather. Anybody have any ideas? |

| We've only trained our two Yorkies to go outside - never used pee pads. Mabel who is just 3 pounds and 5 1/2 months, starts shivering BEFORE we go out. I've been trying to sew them some sweaters and I think I'll buy them some booties - still trying to find out which ones are the best. Yep, Mabel shivers at the rain, I haven't had the heart to tell her about the snow yet! |

| Pixie is over 2 years old and has been going out since she was over 4 months olds. I just put a sweater on her this time of year and I have a coat for the winter. She doesn't mind it at all. I think you'll do fine once you have coats on your furbabies.

| I've been putting sweaters on them for the past month. They have winter coats also but I keep thinking how delicate yorkies are and it makes me very nervous. Zach loves to go out in the rain and comes back looking like a drowned rat. I don't understand it. out of four dogs he's the only one that gets soaking wet. He even finds puddles on a sunny day. Zoe our shorkie is much neater and our two basset hounds love the cold weather. I think I might send for some boots for him. |

| Drowned rats Drowned rats! OH ya, Sprocket looks just like a drowned rat too! Keep him out of the water? Not a chance, just like other little boys he jumps in the mud puddles wherever he finds one. Loves the rain, which is good cause that's our winter, just not loving the cold, which is not ANYWHERE as bad as some of you, but for us, 40deg is a killer. We also have the rain slickers and a heavy sweater I crocheted him but he does not like to wear anything, but he has no choice, one trip to vet taught me about colds and little dogs with out fur! LOL When we come in, he runs around and "drys off" on my furniture and carpet. Good thing he doesn't smell like "dog". Way too much fun. I love the silliness.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | This will be Morgan's 5th winter. We live in Jersey just outside NYC. Since she was 13 weeks old she has been going outside to potty. she refused to do it on wee wee pads, even as a baby. She has never had a problem with the weather. She'll go out in the rain, snow, cold, heat, etc... she's like the mailman. hahaha In the winter she'll run outside, do her business, and then run right back in. If its snowing or raining hard she learned to hug the side of the house in the flower bed to potty. She also goes there in the winter when the snow on the lawn is too deep. She figured out that there is less snow there. After really bad storms i will shovel a section of the yard for her to go in. sometimes my dad gets a little crazy with the shovel and has been known to shovel paths to her favorite spots in the yard.

| Aawwww they will be fine for 3 mins outside. My boys are outdoor peers and poopers and they go out rain, snow or shine. They are good in the snow and even go out nekkid... but its only for 3 mins or until I notice that their little paws are starting to freeze, then I make them come in. If I were to take them OUT like for a walk or something, I'd put a little sweater on them. I do not put booties on them, but I keep saying that I need to buy some so maybe this year I will.

| I'm so glad to hear that. I don't think Zach is going to be happy wearing a heavy jacket. I tried one on before to see if it fits and he sat like a mule and refused to move. He will tolarate a sweater though. They're making me crazy today because it's been raining and everytime they hear the rain they want to go out. I can't tell you how many times I had to dry them off. |

YT Addict | I think he will be fine going outside for a couple minutes - even in the cold. It gets very cold where I live, and you would think Lexi would get cold - but she loves being outside and playing in the snow. She doesn't wear a coat or sweater. On the really nasty days (-40c) she is usually done her business in less than a minute and she is back inside.
