♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | Puppy pee pee's??? Ok, so we've had Maya for 2 1/2 wks now (she's 12 1/2 wks old), and we're obviously in the process of potty training. She came pad trained and did amazingly well going to the pad when she came home, but because we haven't been reinforcing her to go to the pad since we're outside training, she's been having a lot of accidents...which I expected. Some days are better than others...it's a process. And I know that. (Bella came home about a week younger than Maya was when she came home, and I remember ALL the accidents Bella had!!) BUT, it seems like Maya potties a LOT...a lot more than I remember Bella pottying at that age. Of course, maybe I'm just not remembering right.... So, I thought I'd ask what's normal for a 12 wk old puppy?? Because I wanted to start seeing how many times and how many of those were accidents, I started a log today. She has peed 22 times so far (and will probably go once more before bed) and pooped 3 times. Basically, if she's awake it's around every 30 min. AND she naps WAY less than Bella does, and Bella's 2 yrs old. Bella napped even more when she was a puppy, so I was expecting Maya to nap quite a bit too.....NOPE! Which is even more fun since I obviously have to watch her every single second she's awake....it's exhausting!! I should probably say, she MAY pee 1 Tbsp full at a time...maybe, could be less. Sometimes it's more, especially after a nap and 1st thing in the morning. And she hasn't been pottying during the night (I have pads completely covering where she sleeps so I can see she hasn't). I'm thinking this is a "holding it" issue...I definitely don't think it's a health problem (like a UTI) since her pee is a nice yellow color. (Bella's had a UTI before, so I know what to look for.) I just think she maybe doesn't empty all the way when she does go, and she definitely doesn't wait until she's full to go!! Any comments, suggestions, anything?? Is 23 times a day NORMAL for a 12 wk old puppy???

| My boy Yorkie is 10 months old and he still does that. However it is a side-effect of his liver shunt. Does she have any other odd behaviors? |

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | Nope, besides the peeing, she's acts completely normal and is pretty easy! My Bella has HMVD (hepatic microvascular dysplasia...which I don't know if you know, but it's basically lots of teeny tiny shunts, on the microscopic level...it's not as bad as a LS though), but she isn't symptomatic. BUT, because of that I know what symptoms to look for. Maya is perfectly healthy in every way that I can possibly tell at this point!!

| Ziva was a constant pee-er, (she is a very active dog, leaning toward hyper...)At 8 months I thought we would never be able to train her outside, we needed Two potty places in the house so she could make it in time! At 1 year our vet gave me some Proin(google) to try(off label?)- in 3 days she was holding it long enough to get outside, we were able to remove the inside pee pads and she was "trained" within a week. I kept her on it for 1 month and she has been fine.Still pees often but not every 30-45 minutes! |
