| How to get tree sap out of yorkie hair? My girls got onto some evergreen sap and what a mess! I thought I could bathe them well and get it out, but that didn't work. I ended up having to cut it out. Maddie was the worst and looks rather choppy. Do you have any ideas on what would take this out or break it up. I know lighter fluid works, but can't put that on my dogs. Is there anything safe that would work? It was like glue on them.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Sorry you've encountered one of the not so fun things our dogs tend to do. I know mineral spirits & industrial grade alcohol will cut tree sap; just be sure to bathe them afterwards. If you ever get into gum, try peanut butter. There have been several dogs here who've gotten into stuff (knock on wood not us yet!) & if you do a search you may find other hints as well. Good luck!

| I don't know for sure, but something you might try that wouldn't be harmful: vegetable oil (like Crisco), or maybe lemon juice. Once Meika got a mouse sticky trap stuck on her. I tried some harsh stuff like Desolve It, and Goo-be-gone, on small areas of fur away from skin, and washed off quickly, with limited results. Then searched on the web and found the best thing, vegetable oil which worked the best. Might work for sap too.

| On my car I use a High Seeed Orbital Polisher and some fine coumpond to remove, followed by some glaze and wax! Bug, Tar and sap remover also works. On a little pup, I have no idea. A good wipe down with some type of oil (non-automotive), followed by a few baths. |

Connie I think the vegetable oil sounds like a good start. Tell those babies to stay away from that nasty tree goo.

| Thank you for all your replies. Last night when I was working on them, I tried some pet silk serum thinking that might break it up, but it did nothing. If I should happen again, I will give that vegetable oil a try! Wish I'd have thought of that last night! Thanks!

| I'll bet Avon's SSS would get it out. It sure works in getting it off of cars.

| Well that's a thought! I'll have to get some of that to have on hand. I hope this doesn't happen again, but we've got evergreens, so it's a good possibility.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Connie put the oil on and let it sit a bit. It should help. I would try that before anything else. Good luck getting the girls cleaned up. Hope you don't have to chop down their hair.

| How about WD-40? They always had an old wive's tale about people putting it on their arthritic joints! It's supposed to work on anything!

| We sometimes get pine sap on our paws. We just use plain old isopropyl rubbing alcohol and it gets some of the sap off. The rest, well, walking on the sidewalks rubs it off. Good luck!

| It will take road tar off your car, so might work. Then lather up quickly and get it all off.
