| Pet Store gets an "F" from BBB but still gets to sell animals I just recently replied to a post about the price tag on a puppy. In the post I commented that a local Pet store sells their Yorkies for $1800 and up. I have no doubt these puppies are coming from the mills and yet all their pure breed puppies, even without AKC reg are ridiculously expensive. I have been saddened to see a little girl yorkie growing up in their kennel. I know she’s been there for at least a month as I stop in from time to time and have watched her grow. Anyway, last night on the local news there was a story about this pet store, “Jolly Jim’s” located at the Bassett Place Mall in El Paso, TX. They have apparently had so many complaints of selling sick animals that they have been given an “F” rating by the better business bureau. This rating, however, does not put their license in jeopardy because their annual “announced” inspections have always come up clean. I have been in the store several times and commented on how sickly some of the dogs look. They let the dogs chew on each other and no one supervises their play! A Golden Ret. once had a droopy eye and when I asked the girl cleaning up nearby about it she was not concerned and stated it was because of the other dogs. I asked for a manager but none was around, figures. The news also stated they do not staff a Vet to check on these animals regularly. How can these places get away with this? Announced inspections? Really? It just doesn’t seem right and it really upsets me. Anyway, I just wanted to share that story and if there are any El Pasoens on here…..stay away from that store! Pls.

| Good question. How can they continue to get away with it? I never enter a pet store that sells puppies anymore. I just can't do it to myself to see these poor little ones in there. Makes no sence in any shape or form why stores are allowed to sell animals. |

| Simple...it is legal! BBB reports are there to inform a consumer if a business is a good business to buy from..they do not control any of the animal welfare laws. You might want to contact your cities animal protection agency (animal shelter, SPCA) to see if anything can be done.

| I am amazed that people still go in Jolly Jim stores. My niece likes to go in there to see the puppies even she knows the truth behind the glass window yet she enjoys visiting the store. I made sure she did not buy anything from the store. I refuse to go in. It just breaks my heart to see puppies in there. I don't know why people still go there and both stores are always busy. |
