| harness or collar and what age? Hi my Pixie is almost 14 weeks and I was wondering when I should get her use to a harness of collar and what does everyone reccommend? I want to be able to take her on walks with Daisy when she gets older. I bought a step in harness and she trys to bite it off and gets her chin stuck. Is a collar better? I am confused as to how to get her use to one and if I am starting too young. Any advice Please............

| You should only use a harness for a yorkie, they could end up with a collapsed trachea from a regular collar. I really like the silk harnesses that chattiesmom here on YT makes

| I would NOT use a collar to attach a leash (and it's probably not a good idea to leave a collar on all the time, you don't want puppy getting it caught on something when you're not home), but they are good for attaching tags when you take them out or a bell so you can find them in the house easier. They get used to the harnesses...Stella used to HATE hers and try to bite it or roll around to try and get it off, but doing obedience training with her helped since she had to wear it for that and she got treats for walking nicely with it! I think she was almost 5 months before we were "walking nicely" though. I've heard the Puppia ones are good and easy to get on them when they're wiggling (you can see them here ) but I didn't want to wait for it to be shipped so I was at Petco and I found a harness which I really like because it doesn't have any raw edges to rub against her skin. Petco also has their own house brand harness, similar to the Puppia ones. This is the one I have Hope that helps! Last edited by hillies; 11-23-2009 at 11:26 AM. |

| Zena has a collar with tags for ID purposes. It stays on all the time. I use a harness on her for walks and excursions. It comes off as soon as we return home. |

YT Addict | I too use a harness. Try just putting the harness on when you are taking her out on a walk. She will slowly get use to it. I only wear their harness when we are outside walking, but as soon as we are home they come off.

| Rio wears only BuddyBelts as she can't bite them and can't wiggle out of them. They're a bit pricey but made of high quality, soft leather. They are step-in style, with just one buckle on top. They come in lots of colors too. I've attached a picture of Rio in her BuddyBelt - sorry it's not a very good picture but you'll get the idea. | Lilee has a harness and I started getting her used to it by putting it on and letting her run around the house and the backyard in it. We started our walks a few weeks ago and although it was awkward for at first, she's getting really good at it now and loves it! I know Pixie will do great once she gets used to the harness |

| Chloe has a harness aswell. She will get used to it, Chloe used to hate hers too but now associates it with a walk so all we have to do is hold it infront of her and she practically dives into it. We only use it for walks though, when she gets home it comes off right away.

| When you walk her you need to use the harness eventually she will get used to it. A collar should only be used to hold id tags and it too will take her time to get used to it. Normally if they can get there jaws around it then it is not sized correctly.
