| Does my yorkie need a sweater? first winter coming :) Hi everyone, this is my first yorkie and shes almost 6 months old. The colder months are coming soon (now its in the 50's im in NJ) but i wanted to get your opinions...do yorkies need sweaters, coats? i take her outside now for short walks but am afraid she will be cold. I havent given her a haircut yet so she has a lot of hair Just wanted to see what everyone else does. Also do you guys give your yorkies blankies in their beds? mine has a soft bed she sleeps in but i get worried she will be cold...do yorkies get cold? Thanks! |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Yorkies are single coated dogs so they will get colder than the average dog. A coat or sweater is good in the colder weather. A blanket in the bed won't harm anyone. You will see what your pup likes when you put it down. Some move away from it while some burrow. See what your baby likes. By the way Welcome to YT!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i'm in jersey too! welcome to YT! I have a 4.5lb 3 year old. she wears sweaters and sweatshirts in the winter sometimes. when we're in the house she's usually fine but if we go out i'll put something on her. not now at this temp but as it gets colder.

| Welcome to YorkieTalk! Yes, I would get a sweater or hoodie sweatshirt for you little pup. They don't have an undercoat and do get cold. I made some wraps out of fleece for Daisy that go around her belly that keep her dry.

| Welcome to YT! Yes, I would def put a sweater or some kind of shirt on your little one when it starts to get cold out. I just went to Wal-mart and bought Gizmo 5 sweaters at $5 bucks a piece! What a deal! Of course I have to go back and exchange for size small bc I bought all xs! The small looked so big in the store!

| You will need a sweater or warm jacket for the winter. If you are like all of us one will not be enough~your little one will need a section of your closet for all of the cute things that you can buy!

| I am in New York and Armani definitely wears coats and sweaters. In fact she had a sweater on today. If your baby starts to shiver you will know that you need to go with at least a sweater. |

| I am in South Carolina and have had to put sweaters or jackets on my furbabies during our few cold days because of the fact that they started to shiver. I think definitely in any Northern state you would need a regular supply of sweaters. Yorkies are small dogs and get cold easily. |

| Bailey has always worn a coat to go outside in the cold. This fall, she started to wear jammies - which are actually newborn onsies - they fit perfect!

| I would say yes, sweaters are a good idea. I actually only have one right now, since we got Tank after the winter...I need a second. They keep the dog warmer and they don't get as wet if they're in snow or rain. I have pulled out the one we have, and my Tanker loves it! Joey is ok with it, but he prefers to have it taken off once we get inside. Tank wears it all day if you let him.

| My baby is about 15 pounds and she gets cold and shakes when its 60 so I would imagine smaller ones would get colder more easily then she does so I would think yes she probably needs some sweaters. Callie dosent seem to care if she has a blanket to lay on but she loves to be covered up with one when she is sleeping. She loves to take her blankets outside with her on nice days tho and sorta lays on them lol I have posted a thread about that.
