| Sweet Sophie - My Rescue Girl As some of you may remember, my husband flew to Dallas in March to pick our little rescue. Sophie & her sister Harley spent the first 5 months of their lives in a tiny cage, which was covered with poo UNTIL Georgia (Georgiaonmymind) & MIke came into their lives. They bought both pups to save them from the awful conditions that they were living in. They took care of the wounds on their paws, vaccinated then, loved them, socalized them & put them up for adoption. Over that last few weeks Sophie has made such tremendous strides that I composed Georgia an update. When Kevin read it he said...well everyone on YT should know Sweet Sophie's progress too. So for you who remember...her's our baby's story...for those of you who don't remember....well it's not necessarily easy to adopt a 'kid' who has had a rough start BUT the rewards are giagantic!!! This is the email I sent to Georgia & Mike..... Georgia & Mike…. I thought you'd like an update on Sweet Sophie. Wow..you would hardly 'recognize' her. She has come leaps & bounds in the last month or so. I guess she has decided that this is really going to be her forever home. She can sit & uppy (which means she stands on her hind paws) plus she comes when she's called...better than the other two yahoos! She likes being cooed at. I get on the floor & talk really soft to her, I tell her what a pretty girl she is & what a good girl she is...this is what she does (it's so cute) she gets her head real close to the floor &runs her paws over her ears and gives me pretty eyes (like she's peeking at me). She lets me pick her up. All I have to do is tell her i want to pick her up & she stops or turns her butt to me (she just learned that from watching Clarence & Keegan)so I can get ahold of her. She won't let me hold her for too long but it's a start! Also, from time to time she will screech at me...that means she WANTS to be picked up. Kevin walks them about 3-4 times a week & she does better at 1.5 yo than Keegan at 8 yo. Kevin adores her. She loves to go down to the dock & will pace back & forth there for ever if we'd let her. She is so well socalized (THANK YOU!) that she rarely barks at anyone unless one of the boys starts & even then, not always. Sophie is a morning baby...she is so bouncy & sweet in thie morning UNTIL she is ready to eat...then watch out! She screeches at me until I feed all of them. Bed time is her grouchy time....she grrs at Kevin when he picks her up to go to sleep....it used to bother him ,that she did that but now we know...it's just Sophie's way. Duncan took over her favorite chair so now, if she's in the room, when he comes in to get up on it....the little stinker growls at him! It is so wonderful to reach down & pet her without her running off or cowering...she is our joy. She doesn't give kisses yet but she has gotten her lips close to mine & that is good enough for now. She & Keegan have their moments but no more than I think any brother & sister have. She adores Clarence, who just turned 13 & seems to understand that he can't play with her like Keegan & Duncan do. We had a rough start but Kevin & I could not give up on her. I remember the day I told Kevin I wanted to adopt her...he said " why her" & I said...because she speaks to me. Georgia & Mike...thank you so much for saving our little girl she is sweet and funny and we believe that she wants to be with us as much as we want her here. Elizabeth & Kevin |

| What a moving update. I'm so glad Kevin had you share with us. I'm wiping away happy tears right now. Sophie definitely sounds like she's found her people, and her home. Thank you for giving her a safe, loving place to be a happy girl! Or a cranky girl, depending on the time of day!

| She is beautiful because she survived...that is what it is about...same as people. When we first meet people we look at their looks (shame on us) but after awhile we like them because of what is inside...and then we know their real beauty. Your little girl loves you for you and your kindness and that is beautiful.

| What a wonderful story. I couldn't stop reading it. I believe, like you, that you and Sophie were meant to be together. So happy she was able to be rescued.

| I am so glad to hear the good news. I am so happy that you adopted Sophie and that Sophie blossomed into a wonderful pet for your family. I understand how you feel about Sophie's accomplishments. Josh was afraid of loud noises when I adopted him. With my hard work and patients, Josh turned into a dog that is not afraid of loud sounds. I agree with you that it is wonderful to see a timid dog blossom into a dog with a high self-esteem. I am glad you were able to help Sophie and give her a forever home. |
