Tea cup aghhh

I'm so tired of people telling me "aww what a cute tea cup" and tired to explain them tea cups are not real... Whatever, just feel like saying when and how we can educate people? I'm coming from a number one ignorant, thanks god for yt and I'm really mean it. How we can teach people? Btw I have A family cross the street that had a yorkie for 12 yt and still call him tea cup

There are a lot worse things they could call them. I think it would be esier to get YTCA to accept thje teacup word than it would be to get everyone to stop calling smaller Yorkies teacups. (Both impossible!) As long as they are not using the term to try to trick some unsuspecting buyer, or to ridicule or insult, I think we should just go with the flow. You can say, "there really are no teacup designations in the Yorkie breed. Yorkies are a toy breed." Smile, walk on and be secure in the knowledge that you own one of the most amazing breeds in the world! But no reason to jump on them or get mad.

We might know one thing that some of them don't -- the way I look at it, those same people probably know a lot of things I don't too. Life's too short to get all bent out of shape because someone refers to your dog as a teacup. I once tried to warn a breeder that she might not want to use that term on YT as many did not like it. I almost got keelhauled for that! None of it is worth it.

Ok,the thing is English is not my fort, is hard to me to understand everything, but I got it, my first yorkie was from a pet store and today I was at the pet shop and I saw haw easy is for them to sell a pup, they have not idea!! And if you want to help you r the bad guy...it's just sad, like I said I'm not perfect with the english but sometimes I wish to be, all guis people buying dogs from pet stores cuz they don't know any better ..... Like ms when I got my first one

I dont like when breeders use the term as a selling point but dont mind when regular people use it. I would just smile and say she is a small yorkie or something like that

Sorry, my long explanation along with the typing errors, probably was difficult for you to read. I was just trying to say, it is not that bad to say teacup unless you are using it to cheat someone.

You said people tell you ," Aw what a cute teacup" and that the person across the street from you calls their Yorkie a teacup. I think that is not hurting anyone. It is fine to tell them that there are no teacup Yorkies, just try not to get mad. We all know different things.

When I said English is not my fort I really want to say I understand everything but sometimes I wish to know better and express myself better,when I pointed my neighbors, I'm just tired of the expression, when I went little further, I was refering to people ( like me at the beggining) that don't know better cuz nobody told them , so I guess what I tried to say on my poor English was, how can we stop people calling dogs names and educated them being nice at the same time? I respect u a lot, I know u are an educated person with a lot of kindness, so I just wanna say thank u and I looking foward for u answer:thumbup

Teacup is just a nickname and it use to mean the "toy size" of any breed, for example, poodles have three classifications, which are standard, miniature, and toy, people just called the toy size "teacups." The confusion came along with yorkies as they have only one size, and that is the toy size, so theoretically every yorkie is a teacup, so your neighbor is really correct, because her dog is a yorkie and all yorkies are considered toys, not matter what their size!

The YTCA forbids the use of teacup because there is no real definition of it, if someone were to ask me on advice about choosing a breeder, I would tell them to avoid a breeder who uses the term, but I don't think we need to go around educating the public that it's just a nickname and there is no precise definition of it. So be offended if a breeder uses the term, but pet owners can use the word!

I know what you mean though, after reading Yorkietalk for a while, when Joey was still a puppy everyone was asking me if he was a teacup, I felt like I had to educate them, and they just looked at me like I was the stupidest person in the world! Just explaining that standard size for yorkies is 7 pounds and below is usually enough education. When they tell me that their dog is a teacup, no matter what the size, I just say "how cute."

Teacup yorkies come with so many healtissues, i dont understand why people are breeding these extreme small yorkies

Just buy a T-Shirt for you're yorkie and write on it ''I am NOT a teacup!''
Then people should understand.

People often say when they see my big yorkie boy '' Aww, what a cute Silky Terrier mix!'', i hate it when people say that, my dog is very much in standard except he is pretty large (6 kilos),has overbite and floppy ears that didnt go up.
So i understand this a litle.
