| It's so sad how many healthy Yorkies go to the vet... for routine procedures, and end up dying. I'm always so nervous when I take Prince to the vet because he always seem to feel bad when he leaves. Either the medicine didn't agree with him, or something. Does anyone ever follow-up on why their pet died? Has anyone ever sued their vet? We have to be their voice. I always research all meds before I give them to Prince...he has had an allergic reaction to a few. (Unlike people prescriptions, our vet will give a credit if your pet has a bad reaction to something he has prescribed.) I guess I was thinking about Suri and so many others.

| I have never had any issues pertaining to the loss of a healthy animal, by either surgical malpractice or act of god. I have listened to many others give dramatic details of complictions occuring in their vets office, that effectively ended, or disabled their pet permanently. I cannot even imagine what a loss it must be. I am immeasurably grateful for the good health that has been bestowed upon mine. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | I personally haven't had any experience with my pets getting sick from anything the vet did and in my life with my acquaintances i haven't heard of anything like that either. However at my last hospital i believe a Rottie got sick from some med from pfizer which causes a lot of problems. I don't remember the details but the dog is fine now and pfizer paid for everything because we, the hospital, called them and told them what happened. Meds for dogs are just like meds for people. I think we are desensitized to the meds we take because we hear and read so many ads about people meds and the list of adverse reactions that can happen. sometimes i hear or just read "blah blah blah" because every med can cause something. However with our animals we care so much more about what happens to them becuase we make the choices for them. The vets prescribe medications and the vets know the possible side effects (which are common side effects just like with people). But the owners do not know about these side effects so when something happens, like upset stomach, itching, rashes, vomitting, diarrhea, or worse, they (the owners) react so much more. I think its smart for owners to be aware of the side effects of the meds they are giving their pets so if something like the above does happen they won't be so alarmed. But on the other hand you have to be careful where you get the information from. The internet is a great place but we have to remember that anyone can post their biased information about their experiences. An example is Rimadyl. So many people here think its a terrible medication because they read, or someone else read something on the internet and they immediately think its true, or law. I think we need to take a step back and really think about the information given. We may read that 10-20-30 dogs have gotten sick from a certain medication and think that its a horrible medication and we will never give it to our pet. However if you think about it, how many thousands of dogs have used this medication with no side effects whatsoever? Its heartbreaking to read on YT about innocent and healthy animals dying from routine procedures or accidents and i feel for the owners, i really do. These things do happen unfortunately and maybe its the vet's fault or maybe its just the luck of the draw. While there are many wonderful vets out there, there are some not so wonderful ones and the not so wonderful ones to cause accidents that could be prevented. In that case, if it could be proven I would personally go after the vet office that caused the problem, but like i said, only if it was reasonable and it could be proven that the vet was neglectful. Sorry for the long post but i just got on a role and kept going LOL

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | We all need to give a HUGE YT GROUP HUG!!! I guess is happens everyday, just sometimes we're not exposed to it. We are a "BIG FAMILY" here on YT Plus, no one posts about a routine normal visits. They too happen ...everyday. Just like grooming expieriences. I've had some very nice ones, just don't talk about them all the time. We've all had great pup moments. That why we all feel SAFE on this site ,to just get the support we need for whatever reason. DH issues..kids...money or the lack of...and lets face it.... this world is crazy at times. Life is crazy at times. But if we can keep this place, a safe place to go ,vent and share our thoughts and feelings, and also be repectfull of each others differences...Well in words of Martha Stewart ..."It's a good thing" I had my baby neutered last Friday ...nothing abnormal happened. He had an undescended testicle and has 3 incisions. Had to go on a "hunt" for it,but today he's back to himself. He has lyme... and he's on meds. Such is life....Everywhere...Everyone ....is going through ....SOMETHING....BE AWARE..... CARE.

| Not a death, and nothing life-threatening, or in the least, my babies are still alive, but I have had a couple of scares from different vets over recent years. This was for my cat and, later on, my yorkie. My shih tzu never went in for annual shots and only had her rabies given a couple of times over the decade we had her as an adult. So that might be why she did not contribute to the statistics of dogs going in and coming out with a bad reaction to vaccinations. They are a sturdier breed, IMO, so that helped minimize on vet visits also. No knee, hip, or liver problems. |

| You posted what I've been thinking all week. So much heartbreak and sadness from everyday procedures. My heart goes out to those who lost their babies to procedures taken for granted by the rest of us. Who would think such things could happen. I thank God all the time for Buddy's health. Last year, for the first time, he got so sick after his yearly and shot's I was so scared. I remember how I felt then, nothing compared to what other's have found themselves going threw lately. My heart and prayer's go out to those who are suffering at this time due to the loss or a sick puppy. Hugs, |
