| Bella's Flaky Ears! I have noticed on the outer part of bella's ears, under the fur there is very dry skin, to the point of flaking. I bath her with minksheen weekly and wash it out throughly. Sometimes, the outer parts of her ear, like the tips, also have flakes that when I pick out, sometimes has some hair still attached to it. what could this be? Am I just not cleaning correctly or maybe her coat is not producing oils? What should I do? |

| Tobie had this too right after we got him (he was 10 weeks old) except his was all over his body. We asked the vet about it when we took him in to get his shots and the vet just gave us some moisturizing shampoo. It seemed to help and about a week later the dry skin and flakes were gone. How old is she?

| She's a year old and a week. They aren't itchy or painful to her, just annoying for me to look at. I was thinking leather ear, but I think i may be exaggerating in my diagnosis! |

| Have you tried using an oatmeal shampoo and conditioner on her?

| No, I don't Is there anything home-made I could use or maybe something humans use to help with the flakiness? I'm going to be bathing her in a few. |

| That I'm not sure of. The shampoo the vet gave us was an oatmeal shampoo and then I bought an oatmeal conditioner to go along with it. Maybe someone else knows a homemade remedy for the dry skin.

| I wonder if it could be leather ear. Here's a link: Alex's Yorkie Care Frequently Asked Questions. Page 3. Scroll down about 2/3 and you'll see 2 pictures of a yorkie...one with leather ear and one without. It tells about it below.

| HI, I don't have a home remedy but I do have experience with the ear problem. I had a poodle that had it. Her ears just kept getting thicker and thicker and flakier and flakier and I took her to the vet. He said it was like an athletes foot type on fungus on her ears. He gave me a spray and it took care of it within a week.

| Momo had that problem too. All white flakes on his ear flap, & at bath time, I rinsed that area real good (closing off his ear opening & had a cotton ball in it). I even took a toothbrush & scrubbed it (he didn't like that part). It was still there! I clipped all the hair off his outer flap & rubbed some vasaline on it & it was gone.
