| My skidish yorkie! Hi all, We have had Gunner almost a month now and he is still so skidish of us. He will come if I call him but not close enough for me to really reach him. It is like catching a rabbit! He also barks at my grown son EVERY time he sees him. He holds him and tries to get to know him to no avail! Also, he really doesn't like to play. Do you think he will grow out of this or is there something I can do to help?? WE just love him to death!!! I will try to post a picture soon as I figure it out. Thanks, Karen |

| Can you give us a bit more insight on Gunner? How old is he? Is he a rescue? Mill baby? I hope everyone here can help you get closer to your boy |

| Hi, I was reading your post about him being dropped.. You need to talk to the vet about the way he is acting. There could be something going on from the fall. Better to find out than to ignore his fear. That is what it sounds like to me. When you get a new puppy it should really stay at home so he can adjust to his new surroundings and not taking him out and about. After he sees the vet I would put him in a quite place with a bed food and potty pad and let HIM make the next move, it would be good of you got an ex-pen so her will have a safe place or a crate with his bed in it. He probably needs to adjust and when you do try to pick him up the next time, go up from behind him so he won't see you to get so scared. I've had Yorkies since 1976, so I've had alittle experience with these little fragile guys. Please contact the vet....... Good luck, Sharon |

| Thanks! Thanks Sharon and everyone! Let me give you a little info on him. We got him at almost 4 months old. She is very reputable from everyone I spoke with and I could tell they are loved. She was going to keep Gunner but found out she has cancer and decided against that because she didn't have time with her treatments. Sharon, Gunner was doing this even before his fall. I took him immediately to the vet. Nothing was broke. Thank God! Maybe we are making a little progress Gunner will back up to me for me to pick him. I appreciate your help. |

| Have you tried sitting on the floor with treats in your hands, then put them on your lap, etc? Find something he really likes. That way he associates you with good things.

| My Zeus will run when I try to pick him up. I suggest you get down to his level. I have to sit down with my legs crossed and Zeus will jump on my lap. But when I stand up and try to pick him up, he runs. Maybe the height is very intimidating. My Phoebe was 9 months when I got her. It took her about 3 months before she started to really play. Just keep trying. I'm sure he will come around.

| Thank you! I will keep trying all the helpful hints! I know we must look like big huge giants out to get him! Poor thing! One day I will find a treat he likes! Here is another question for you?? He will go out to pee but it has been raining here for days and he won't go out. So, I keep pee pads down. Sometimes he will use them and sometimes he just goes on the floor. I know most will say keep him in the kennel if I am not watching him. Anything other hints? Thanks bunches |

| Chattiesmom on this site makes them! Just message her here http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/mem...attiesmom.html and she'll have you some in the mail! She's great! Oh and they're ALL natural stuff, even my 5 yr old son has eaten one and said it tasted just like my dehydrated nanner treats I make him! |

| I think that I have the ONLY Yorkie on this site that doesn't like Yorkie Yummies. Good thing my pug dog likes them. I have 2 packs.

| Some dogs are just born more submissive.Doesn't mean anything happened to them or that something that did is still traumatizing them.I think if you can find a treat he likes reward him with it when he comes and give lots of rubs and petting he will warm up to you.As for your son I think its territorial and your son giving treats will help.Always move slower when approaching him while calling his name.(I will say while training since he is closer to you start with only you working with him, while building his trust). I am not a trainer, but this is what I did when I took in my Sarah from a breeder that over bred her and cast her off sick to me.She was territorial toward everyone but me,skiddish and barked enough to wake the dead. She would definately try to bite and she would pee herself when called. Everyone said she would never change the Dr's too.I just smiled and read lots of literature. She does not bark at all anymore even when my others were going crazy. She tries to bite no one.She is not afraid of anyone anymore.I can take her for walks and the peeing is a thing of the past. So you see things can and will change you just have to find what they are responsive to.good luck

| Journey826 Thanks for sharing your encouraging story! How long did it take for your dog to start to change? What did you do when she would bark ? Gunner barks at only my son and husband. I don't think he got very much attention since the owner was sick. Thanks, |
