I can't believe he is really doing this? I wondered why Jonah had his head under him while peeing and I finally figured it out, he was drinking his pee! He has fresh water to drink and he does drink it. This happens when Jonah squats to pee which is when he has too pee a lot and I guess when there is lots to drink! Please tell me he is not the only dog that has done this and if there is a way to cure this habit?

You had better luck than I did goggling his behavior. At one point i thought this might have started when he was a puppy and it was his way of attempting to hide an inside accident (slurp up the pee before anyone could find any on the floor). Though I doubt that that is true. He is 14 months old and has been slurping for about three months now.

My Dog Likes to Drink his own Pee?!? - Yahoo! Answers I searched "dog drink own urine" . This gives a bunch of links. Looks like some potential reasons are behavioral due to confinement, mineral/vitamin deficiency, & UTI causing excessive thirst. Is he unusually thirsty?

I did find some goggle sites addressing this and I will talk with my vet on Monday as some felt a urinary tract infection could cause him to do this. Another site said to put pineapple in his food and his pee will taste so bad he will stop. So if I can rule out any infection may be the pineapple is worth a try! Jonah is really such a sweet, handsome boy habits like this are going to ruin his image.
