| Help! Diatomaceous Earth Does anyone know where I can get Diatomaceous Earth? I know of places I can get it online but I was wondering if there was any store I could by it at. There was a bug on Lilly's leg earlier. I'm almost 100% positive it was a flea. I have NO idea where she would've gotten one from... I thought we were flea free. I assumed with the colder weather, she wouldn't need a preventative anymore, so last month I didn't get her Comfortis from the vet. Big mistake. I don't get it. She doesn't go outside or anything. The only place we've been in the past month is my mom's house... I don't know if she has fleas or what. Ugh. I'm ready to try something more natural though, I'm sick of all this nasty crap. I'd really like to be able to either get the Diatomaceous Earth or Flee, Flea! I'm not into finding all of the oils to use... it'd be very hard to find here where I live in KY. Thanks much!

| I mean this would be safe even for small dogs, right? I'm going to order it off the internet but want to make sure first. Lilly is around 9 lbs. Is there anything else I could use? Please help someone!

| Perhaps a swimming pool supply place would have it. It's used in filters to "polish" the water. |

| Don't use the pool supply stuff. Make sure its food grade. I know people use it for farm animals so I'd say your best bet is like a farm supply. or online. I had it recommended to me on another forum for my yorkie to help with his current worm issues. hope that helps. |

| You can buy diamatecious earth even in Albertsons grocery store, in Home depot, any swimming pool store. It is used in swimming pool filters. I am curious about how you are using it for fleas?

| We use it when we get a flea infestation. We get it at the local nursery. What it does is cut the ecktoskeletan of the flea & it dies. Our vet was more than pleased that we use it instead of bombing our home with chemicals. |

| So after i posted I thought about it and i dunno if it would matter if its food grade or not unless htey eat it. When we got it it was to feed to Walker to help with the internal parasites so it HAD to be food grade. Would they eat it to help with fleas? lol. it may not matter in your situation unless the pool kind is treated with something. |

| You should be able to get it at any gardens shop and probably Lowes or Home Depot as well. Its really good for keeping slugs off of plants

| For what it's worth, I use DE sprinkled around the perimeter of my fish pond and around the house: it will also keep snakes away, too. It gets under their scales when they move and is very irritating. It just has to be renewed after it rains. Last edited by Lee B; 11-30-2008 at 01:20 PM. |
