| Snoring and other problems.... Does anyone else's yorkie snore? Daisy (my oldest) has been snoring for quite some time now. She also sounds like she is going to hack a lung up when i get home from work with this funny noise she makes. I used to think it was just because she had just woken up and she was a little congested, and it always goes away within minutes. But I'm not sure what it could be. Its not worrying me to the point to bring her to the vet, she just sounds like my husband when his allergies kick in! Also, my new baby yorkie Lilly, and Daisy have been getting along "ok" not wonderful. But the barking is KILLING me, they just bait each other and bark all the time! Mostly b/c Lilly is bullying Daisy and not letting her have any toys, but they just wont stop the barking! I have tried the firm "no". I've tried separating them, taking toys from them, but I also want them to establish their own relationship. Its been a month now, i've been patient, but now Im at my wits end with the barking. Any suggestions? |

| I'm sure there's still some "pecking order" probably going on, and you have to let a certain amount of that happen on it's own. But when the barking goes beyond that you need to step in. You need to get their attention focused on you before you tell them no. If they are still focusing on each other, you can talk till your blue in the face it won't make any difference. With my two, usually a quick firm touch on the neck will break their focus and then I tell them quit. If that doesn't work, usually Gracie will be the one to continue barking, another more firmer ( such grammar!) touch and again the command, Quit. If that doesn't work, sigh and sometimes it doesn't with the little Princess , then I pick her up and get her right in my face, growling the Quit to her. This nearly always gets her attention PDQ. She may try to start up again when I put her down, but now the touch and command will work to get her stopped. It's the puppy in her, she too is the bully of the pair, but it's getting better each day. Mainly tho, you have to change their focus from each other to you. I'm sure you will have many other suggestions, just try them and find the one that works for your girls. Good luck!

YT Addict | Have you tried the pennies in the can trick? I used this method with Lexi when she started getting yappy, worked like a charm. All I did was fill an old pop can with pennies and I would shake it madly every time she barked. Word of advise...clean out the pop can first. Lexi snorts when she gets REALLY excited, for example when she plays with our doberman she snorts, sneezes and makes all sorts of weird sounds. |

| Thank you both! I want to let the dogs work it out themselves, but i have a hard time distinguishing them playing/biting/barking. Everytime i try to step in, my husband says "let them work it out" but i feel like my oldest yorkie is very upset and doesnt like this new little creature that takes all her toys and is biting her (still teething) and always jumping on her. But other times, Daisy starts barking at her to get her to play. I'm going to try to be more firm (the youngest is still impressionable, the oldest could care less how loud or firm i am!) I am DEFINITELY trying the pennies in a can trick tonight! The slap-my-hand-on-the-coffee-table trick isn't working as well and I know im going to get a bruise one of these days! I'm glad to hear others making snorting noises, i know there is a risk of the collapsed trachea and my vet did tell me that Daisy has it verrrrrrry slightly, so its nothing to worry about. But maybe that is connected and worth at least calling them! Thank you again!! |

| Ellie snores occasionally. Are you sure the hacking isn't reverse sneezing from getting excited?

YT 1000 Club Member | My Maggie snores and has since the day I brought her home. She is 2 1/2 years old. Her trachea is fine . Some dogs snore and some don't.
