YorkieTalk Newbie! | How Long can I leave my pup home alone for? I just started a new job, and I feel terrible for leaving my pup home for 8 hours. I obviously load her dish up with food and water, and she has free reign of my place...she goes on the wee wee pad. Is this ok? Should I get another yorkie to keep her company? HELP! |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | i feel like she is lonely. i wish i didn't feel such guilt. she is 1 year old...i have my own business, so I am only away 3 days a week from her from 8-5:30. I did have someone come and walk her, but it is $15 for a 30 min walk, and it gets costly. My parents said she will be fine and dogs sleep during the day. |

| I work all day and Caylee in a baby playpen that was my sons. Once she's potty trained we'll do something different.

| It is great for them to have a companion but you need to be prepared for them not liking thier companion, especially since she is already a year old. We have a 1 year old yorkie and a 5 month old yorkie and they do love each other and play great. But after spending all day together all our older wants is to be free from the puppy. If we give the puppy lots of attention he gets bummed out and will go lay down somewhere all by himself. It has definately changed his personality. Also two yorkies is more than twice the work of one yorkie, if you are only gone 3 days per week I would not worry about it. It will take some time to adjust into the new routine but it is probably bothering you more than it is her.

| Mocha used to come to work with me when he was younger, but now that he's older (and learned how to bark at everything!) he stays home. I was really nervous about leaving him alone during the day. I bought a Pet Cam to see what he does when I'm gone, and lo and behold he just sleeps all day. I think your baby will be fine...it's actually harder on us than it is on them

| I got mine on Ebay and it's this one Panasonic Pet Cam, Network Camera Model BL-C1A-S - eBay (item 150294090989 end time Sep-19-08 13:30:00 PDT). I didn't get it from that seller, but it's the same one I have. That particular auction has a pretty low starting price and there are no bids yet, so you might be able to score a good deal (the other ones listed are more expensive). Or you can check out some more by searching under "pet cam"

| That's actually part of the reason why I'm getting a second dog; to keep my Chi company when I return to work. I've not been working the whole time I've had Ellie due to ill health but am hoping to start some very part time work a couple of days a week soon and it'd be nice if she had company. Jess |

| No problem Oh, I should also mention that it doesn't have a recording feature, so you can't do a "playback" when you get home. It's more like a live webcam that you can access through an internet browser. So if you don't have access to a computer or internet when you're away and "spying" on your baby, then it's pretty much pointless Other than that, it's great to have if you want to see what your baby does when you're away. I also like it 'cause it shows me if anybody in my family is home (ie. I know when my sister comes home from school 'cause she takes Mocha out of his playpen).
